Happy 4th everyone!!!

Two days after being invited to his first All-Star game, Michael Fulmer pitched eight strong innings to lead the Detroit Tigers to a Fourth of July victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Tigers outfielder Justin Upton, who also had a strong case for All-Star consideration, went 3-for-3 and had a critical two-run single in the seventh to key the 5-3 win Tuesday at Comerica Park.
Upton had two doubles, a walk and the game-winning single.

Mixing his fastball and slider, Fulmer retired 11 in a row through the middle innings, and ran into trouble only when he gave up a couple of home runs, a rarity for him.

NOTABLE:
Hunter Pence's solo home run in the first inning was the first homer allowed by Michael Fulmer since April 26. The 73 2/3-inning streak was the longest active in baseball.

Victor Martinez drove in the first two runs for the Tigers. He hit a game-tying solo home run in the second inning and added an RBI single in the fourth that brought home Upton.
Victor Martinez, 2-for-20 since coming off the disabled list, home run in the second was his first since May 31. In 17 games since that last home run, he hit only .190 with two extra-base hits.

The Giants had four fly-outs of at least 344 feet against Fulmer in the first four innings. The longest was a 408-foot fly ball by Buster Posey that was caught by center fielder Mikie Mahtook. Stat Cast pegged the hit probability at 95 percent.

Upton went 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.

Fulmer, who is heading to the All-Star Game next Tuesday in Miami, allowed three runs on five hits over eight innings. Fulmer walked one and struck out five.
Fulmer entered the game with the longest active streak without yielding a home run ? 73 ⅔ ininings. The streak ended when Hunter Pence hit a two-out, solo home run in the first inning.
Fulmer had not allowed two home runs in a game this season ? until Crawford?s game-tying shot. It was the fourth time in his career that Fulmer had allowed two home runs in a game and first since he surrendered two in a loss to the Red Sox on Aug. 19, 2016.

Miguel Cabrera left the game in the top of the seventh with left hip tightness, replaced defensively at first base by Andrew Romine.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
Pence opens scoring: Fulmer hadn't given up a home run since April 29, but he paid for falling behind his first three batters in his first inning as he worked to find his fastball command.
Hunter Pence saw three fastballs, the first two out of the zone, before sending the third out to right-center field for his sixth home run of the season.

Upton converts rally: The Tigers opened their seventh with back-to-back singles off Giants starter Matt Cain, but the rally was on the verge of fizzling out after Iglesias' sacrifice bunt attempt went back to Cain for the forceout at third base. Alex Avila's two-out infield single against the shift extended the inning and loaded the bases for Upton, who hit a 2-0 pitch off George Kontos.

Talking about fireworks when I was in Michigan across the lake there was a house that would shoot fireworks from 3 days before the 4th to about 2 weeks after. Every night from Dark until about 2 in the morning. Drove me absolute nuts.. Felt like he was in my back yard. I like the quite these days.
