Game turned early in the top 1st, Kinsler and Elvis on base, Upton swings through a changeup and chases sliders away and then away into the lefty batters box. and Avila hits into a gidp.
Gibson isn't anything special, but so far tonight neither is Tigers offense.
Add to that Zimmermann doing his shit impersonation of a pitcher....

Tigers are dead tonight. Zimmermann crap again, Kyle Gibson pitching like Bob Gibson. Did they hear trade going down tonight?

Season in a nut shell.. Have a nice win followed by a pos..

Nice job Monroe. Bash these guys for lack of fundementals. Running through signs is one this team does way to much..

Alex Presley was the Detroit Tigers' only offense.

His teammates finally joined him in the eighth inning, scoring five runs but falling just short of a dramatic comeback as the Minnesota Tigers held on to beat the Tigers 6-5 at Target Field.

Alex Presley smacked a double to score the Tigers' first run in the eight, knocking Twins starter Kyle Gibson out of the game. Then Justin Upton greeted reliever Taylor Rogers with a three-run home run off the foul pole in left.

The Tigers tacked on another run but were hurt by a close call at first base that went against them. Nicholas Castellanos appeared to beat out an infield hit, but first base umpire Will Little called him out and the replay officials agreed. Several angles showed that Castellanos beat the throw, but the video evidence wasn?t enough to overturn the call.

Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias led off the ninth with a single against Twins closer Brandon Kintzler, but he was thrown out trying to advance to second base. Iglesias finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Zimmermann allowed five runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out one. He walked four (one intentionally). The four walks were the most he?s allowed since giving up five in an 11-5 loss to the Twins in Detroit on April 13.
It was the sixth time in 19 starts this season that Zimmermann has allowed at least three walks in a game. He entered the game as the active leader in fewest walks per nine innings (1.92) among those with at least 1,000 innings pitched.
Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann didn't make it out of the fourth inning, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking four and striking out just one.
The rough start came after he had one of his best starts of the season at Kansas City just five days ago.

The Twins scored three runs in the third inning, but Tigers left fielder Justin Upton threw out the potential fourth run at the plate to end the inning. Robbie Grossman was trying to score from second on Zack Granite's single, but Upton cut him down on a perfect throw.

It was Upton's seventh outfield assist of the year, which is tied for second-most in the American League. It's his second-most in a single season and two shy of his career high (2015 with the San Diego Padres).

Andrew Romine started at first base in place of Miguel Cabrera on Saturday and went 0-for-4. Cabrera bruised his collarbone on Friday and is day to day.

Bruce Rondon pitched a quick, scoreless eighth inning for the Tigers for the second night in a row.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Early outburst: Minnesota cashed in three runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back. After Zimmermann cruised through the first two frames, the Twins tacked three straight one-out singles off him, including an RBI base knock from Joe Mauer. Robbie Grossman, who was 1-for-12 this homestand entering Saturday, drove in a run with a double into left-center. Rosario capped off the early attack with a sacrifice fly. The Twins are now 29-19 this season when scoring first.

All-Star magic: The Tigers batted around in the top of the eighth to nearly wipe away a six-run deficit. Kintzler was tasked with getting an extra out, marking his fourth appearance in the eighth frame, but the first Detroit batter reached on an error by Miguel Sano. Clinging to a 6-5 advantage, Kintzler bounced back and got first baseman Andrew Romine -- playing for the injured Miguel Cabrera -- to roll into an inning-ending groundout.

REPLAY REVIEW
The first and only challenge of the game came from the Tigers in the top of the eighth. Detroit lost its second challenge in as many days, this time on a groundout to second base by Nicholas Castellanos. The call stood after a review that lasted one minute and 42 seconds, marking the second out of the frame.

Webvideo Highlights and lowlights of the Tigers loss to the twins.

ROARS:
Mikie Mahtook and Alex Presley ? these two, who now find themselves as every day players in the wake of J.D. Martinez?s trade, were the the earliest offensive producers into tonight?s game. Mahtook continues to be impressive since his uptick in production starting in June, helping score the 5th run for the Tigers, and Presley was especially good at bat tonight, knocking in the game?s first run.

Justin Upton got a few tremendous catches in left field, stealing some runs from the Twins, including a throw out at home. His efforts kept the game from getting significantly more out of hand for the Tigers. Not content to just help in the outfield, he belted a mammoth 3-run home run in the eighth, suddenly putting the Tigers right back in the game.

HISSES:
Jordan Zimmermann. Just... ouch.

James McCann?s new goatee. Nope.

That ridiculous review play when Castellanos was called out at first base. Probably should have been safe and really hurt the Tigers.

STREAKS & INFO:
Upton?s 3-run blast was his first home run since June 29th.
