I don't like this part: So much we need. They haven't had a decent ml system in so long.

"Tigers look to restock farm at all positions."

That's because they Suck at drafting.
Drafting low ceiling players.
Drafting a tall pitcher who throws 98 but has no command and fringy secondary pitches. Maybe 1 other pitch that is good or be developed, making him a reliever at the ML level.
Drafting low ceiling positional players who have no feel for the strike zone, won't hit ML pitching, and after a few years become AAAA players.

So True..

Remember this guy, Kyle Sleeth? Just horrible. They also lose many 1st round picks for signing too many marginal players, or players not worth their money.

Jacob Turner was another piece of shit. I should stop going down memory brook lane, it's upsetting. Have we changed out scouts over the years or we still have the same bunch?

Going back away Matt Anderson.. Ugh.

Though I guess we can thank the Padres for drafting Matt Bush (nice RP now it seems) instead of JV..

Sometimes the scouts have a player in mind, but the front office personnel makes the decision on one of those other type players,

It's like every year, I look at who is available in the ML draft, see the all the mocks and get an idea of who of the players I like will be there for the Tigers to choose from, and they pick one of their low ceiling specials, and I'm saying to myself, why the f did they pick him, and right after the next few teams draft the 2/3 players with the higher ceiling.

Not sure if it happens anymore but years ago some of the better talent got drafted lower because of asking price. Of course Detroit never seemed to mind paying whatever.. I don't trust Avila having a good draft.. Honestly in October we need a new start, get rid of Avila - new GM probably gets rid of Ausmus.. and just start over.

I've been saying that for awhile Mitch, I just wonder if Chris Ilitch is really paying attention to what is going on with this team.
Bringing in a new GM he would bring in his own people, manager, player development, player personnel, etc. better philosophy of drafting, ie. higher ceiling players, better strike zone judgement, etc.
There are set amounts of money now for each round, slotted,

Has anyone actually watched a MLB draft? Is it as boring as it seems? I was thinking of watching until Detroit got their 1st round pick..

1st Round is OK I guess. It is usually the 1st round where players mostly pan out. I laugh at all the projections. I certainly want to see who DET takes 1st this year. It will be very telling for the rest of the draft.

I think there are 40 rounds. 95% of the players drafted won't make a major league roster within the next 3-5 years. It's a waste of time to watch it. I will read some articles about the Tigers draft but what...if 2 out of 40 make the Tigers it will be considered to be a good draft???

Thanks.. I might take a gander for a short while.. Maybe we get a late late late late superstar, like Piazza. My opening thoughts are "So how will they screw this draft up."

2017 MLB Draft day: Will Tigers target another pitcher with their 1st pick?
Mlive

If you haven't watched an MLB draft ever, watch tonights first round and the competitive balance rounds and tomorrows rounds 3 - 10.
By the 10th round you will either like it or never watch that much of an MLB draft again.
Wednesdays draft is rapid fire like every 2/3 minutes each teams pick.

Here's the schedule:

Monday

7 p.m. -- Round 1, competitive balance Round A, MLB Network

Round 2, competitive balance Round B, MLB.com

Tuesday

1 p.m. -- Rounds 3-10, MLB.com

Wednesday

Noon -- Rounds 11-40, MLB.com

All times Eastern

Thanks KC. I'll see if I can bare it until Detroit's pick and probably just check online in the morning to see what else they got. We need some luck..

It's all a crap shoot. Might be a top rated pitcher or position player from prep/highschool or college, a can't miss type and they do, or a not rated that high player who becomes an all-star or mvp type player.

I would like to see Nate Pearson or Drew Waters from the select few players I read up on.
Doubt it will be either, and if it was, you never know if they will succeed all the way up to and at the ML level.
