Miggy. Now an 11-time All-Star, the Tigers slugger is among the most popular figures at the Midsummer Classic, having gotten to know most of his All-Star teammates while chatting at first base in Detroit. He's all business when the ball is in play though, and he remains one of the most dangerous and feared hitters in the American League. He missed last year's All-Star Game due to a strained calf.

Rod Carew is an alltime great hitter and 7 time batting champ,
but to name the A.L. batting champ award after him is unfair to Ty Cobb w/ his 12 batting titles.

IMO Cobb probably doesn't deserve to have any awards named after him. I would name the batting title after Ted Williams.

Why?
Williams won 7 as well, Cobb won more than any other player.

every account that I have read or heard about him is that he was a racist and all around bad guy. That doesn't take away from what he did but IMO would take away naming an award after him.

Of course I could be wrong...some of these stories could be just stories.

They are just stories Tom. Cobb spoke up on behalf of Negro League players and said many times they should be allowed to play in the ML's. iirc, he also played with them in all-star games in Cuba and barnstorming teams in the offseasons.

Yeah, that's the momentum and the easy narrative to embrace. EDIT: I had no idea the ASG was yesterday.

It's always been the second or third Tuesday in July for as long as I can remember. Having said that I didn't watch a single second of it lol.

It's been ruined, IMO, by the voting, the HFA for the winning league, the HRD and the 75 (sic) players on each roster.

There isn't an All Star game in professional sports worth 2 cents to watch.

I watched very little of it, flipped to it just in time to see Miggy strike out against crooked hat then flipped back to politcal yip yap

What Is It At Now 23-6 since 1988 for the AL or therabouts. Sooner or later NL is going to implement the DH. Might as well make the leagues the same.

Why was the American League hitting in the bottom of each inning in a National League park?

iirc, they said it was due to so many of the recent all-star games were played in National League ball parks, so they did it to give the American League the opp to be the home team.

wht. the. hck. is. hppning. with baseball.

I knew the asg was dead when not only didn't Brandon Inge make an all star game, but also appeared in a home run derby.

I remember as a kid watching the ASG just to see a Tiger play a little bit. I remember being kind of excited about it and got upset if they didn't get much playing time. Now I feel like that kid was stupid!
