With Justin Upton on bereavement, Brad Ausmus said Friday he?d have to start one of his left-handed hitting outfielders against Danny Duffy on Saturday. After Friday?s performance, Tyler Collins is the left-handed bat starting, playing in left field. Steven Moya sits amidst a 3-for-26, 15-strikeout slump since the start of the last road trip June 30.
On the Royals side, Alcides Escobar returns to the leadoff spot in the order for the first time since June 29 and the second time since June 8. Whit Merrifield, who had been getting the bulk of the starts up top, is off tonight. Alex Gordon, who received a stretch of leadoff starts before the break, is batting fifth.
On the umpiring front, Vic Carapazza is behind home plate tonight. He was in the headlines a couple weeks ago with a trio of Blue Jays ejections July 1 against the Indians at Rogers Centre. This pitch and the resulting argument was the reason behind the one-game suspension Edwin Encarnacion served against the Tigers just before the break.

My goodness did not take long to get behind in this game. For crying out loud bring any one up to replace the auto loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FCOL I know the Tigers management can not see past there eyes because there ears are squeeze between there bum cheeks !!

Does palfrey even know where the plate is? Three walks all ready. 50 pitches and rising in the 2nd inning, 51 52on the way. Getting ready to walking them full !

Good God fire the scouts and management that thought Pelfrey was a good pickup at all ?

Grinding out at bats and taking a walk. He should be booed. The guy is a disaster.

And our reliever come in and throws a ball. And now a wild pitch 5-1 gee where do they get these retreads?

Here a thought tigers could win it late after the royals wear them selves out running the bases early. Wait a minute that will not happen with all the walks!

Aviles is just flat out terrible at the plate. I'd rather give any of our prospects more AB's in place of that guy.

Pelfrey is first Tigers starter with 4 walks, 0 K's in less than 2 innings of work since Mike Maroth did it on July 27, 2005.
