Tigers vs. White Sox Game Thread April, 21

Too bad Sanchez is on the hook for that 3rd run. He even almost negated it by backing up that terribad throw.

Fielder, Peralta, Infante, Pena,

Actually, Peralta is hitting .164 with a .243 OBP this year. Kinsler has been as good as Infante, Nick C. has been better than Fielder so far and Pena sucks.

The one person you left off of the list is Miggy.

Also missing....Iglesias, Dirks, Tuiasosopo, etc, etc

And it really doesn't matter what so and so is currently hitting on this team or any other team. It is the same issue. We do not make the opposing starter to throw more pitches. First pitch swinging is the bane of this team.

IMO first pitch swinging is not the biggest issue, the biggest issue is an inability to make timely adjustments to,soft tossers, most of them just can't seem to square em up even after back to back games against soft tossers..the book on the tigers is keep the fastballs away and get em out with off speed...worked last year often and still working this year even more it would seem

My point is we do not drive the opposing pitch count up. And we do not take pitches. As a team, we are below average at taking walk and plate discipline.

2 straight walks (because the pitcher is actually wild) and the next guy is first pitch swinging, either popping out, fouling out to the catcher or grounds into a doubleplay. A rally killer, hence the term "bane".

So the players are either uncoachable or Wally Joyner is not instructing them to be more selective at the plate.

I am a firm believer that you cannot change this once a player reaches 25. At that point, it is a ingrained habit and players do it without a conscious thought.

We kill are pitchers when we have 5 pitch innings, only to have our starter run back out at a minimum rest.

Smart baseball is for at least the last hitter to take a few pitches. But no, we have some selfish non-team players who still first pitch swing.

Coaching or not, out team is made up of these type hitters. Almost all over the age of 25. The person I feel as responsible isn't the hitting coach, it is the General Manager.
