Lineup suggestions

Regardless what the "readings" say, and it has a bit of value, no one does it. Not one team does it like that.

Exactly and you always have to figure in guys athleticism and ability to run and steal bases as well. I don't want Miggy coming up to a nobody on situation when you can potentially have 2 or 3 on before he hits the big fly.

It still happens. No matter where you bat someone in the order they will still end up leading off a good number of innings throughout a season.

2013= 555 AB. none on =293 AB's, 97 hits 31 walks .331 avg. runners on = 262 AB's 96 hits, "59" WALKS .366 AVERAGE. Lead off an inning. 93 AB's 30 hits 9 walks .323 avg. Cabrera is a much better HITTER with runners on! Scoring position is better at .397. bases loaded at .400. Scoring position 2 out (".459") Crazy statement here but leave him out of the lineup until runners are in scoring position pinch hit and cash in the runs! OK 'm kidding but there is a big difference in having runners on. Having him leading off 162 times would not help IMHO. As the stats show he much better with runners on, much better.

This is not news....just about ALL hitters do better with Runners On and then RISP.

2013 AL
None On .313 OBP
Runners ON .330 OBP
RISP .335 OBP

2012 AL
None On .309 OBP
Runners ON .334 OBP
RISP .341 OBP

2011 AL
None On .315 OBP
Runners ON .332 OBP
RISP .338 OBP

Davis LF
Kinsler 2B
Beast 1B
Martinez DH
Hunter RF
Jackson CF
Castellonos 3B
Avila C
Gonzalez SS

Love how 97.1 was crying about Davis batting lead off vs. a righty in Cashner the night he was the only one to get a hit... SMH

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Davis has done well for us, but should not be leading off vs. RHP the stats bear this out. In fact unless he has completely changed his hitting approach (unlikely) he's going to struggle vs. RHP pretty soon.

It is kind of funny the one LH SP we faced, Davis did not play. Really makes no sense.

OBP when Leading Off an Inning Last 3 years (NOT park adjusted)

M. Cabrera .404 OBP

V. Martinez .370 OBP

P. Fielder .362 OBP

A. Jackson .352 OBP

J. Iglesias .352 OBP

A. Avila .346 OBP

A. Dirks .344 OBP

I. Kinsler .335 OBP

J. Peralta .334 OBP

R. Santiago .331 OBP

D. Kelly .329

T. Hunter .302

O. Infante .299

B. Pena .288

A. Gonzalez .285

R. Davis .277

It is funny how the team's worse players with OBP when leading off an inning all have been hitting in front of Miguel Cabrera so far this season.

I always thought if sometime is doing well don't change unless be stops doing well. No harm no foul.

But Mitch, who is to say we wouldn't be 7-3 or 8-2 right now if Jackson leadoff, followed by Collins or Martinez?

I get the fact that Davis is getting hits (not taking many walks). But this whole team isn't taking walks or making the opposing pitcher work deep into counts. We can survive on short stretches by hitting alone. But as do players go into slumps, so do teams. And not drawing walks will effect this team sooner than later.

OBP is more about generating walks than hitting for a high average.

We don't. This team has holes so outside your OBP down lineup we don't have many leadoff hitter type options..

The Tigers need more hitters like Roy Thomas. Any hitter can learn to take more pitches and get rid of the pitches he does not want to hit. No one is born with this ability. Yet here we are with a new hitting coach and the Tigers are dead last in walks in the AL. 20 walks below league average. As for lead-off hitters? What is that, anyway? Every batter is a potential lead-off hitter, and THE so-called lead-off man does that with certainty only once in the course of a game.

This is a very disturbing stat, the trend needs to change. Immediately.
