Thanks kevin,
I actually read that about Al Al in this mornings walkabout I posted in the team notes.

sorry, I thought you were talking about when Rondon comes back

I apologize Tom,

My thoughts were split,

when Rondon comes back I was thinking the enigma Al Al.

When Verlander comes back, I was thinking Lobstein could be sent back to Toledo for doing nothing wrong but in a numbers/starters crunch.

Not sure why these DP's are suddenly such a concern with some of you?

We finished 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd in GIDP's the last 4 years. In fact, the last time we finished outside the top 3 was 2010 when we finished 11th. It was also the last time we didn't make the postseason.

Really? I am not using GIDP per se, I am using man on 1st, less than two outs. GIDP is a counting stat, so it only makes sense that more opportunities can equate to more GIDP. So the fact that they had more than other teams isn't an issues, unless they utterly fail in this situation, which they are doing this year.

Man on 1st, less than 2 outs:

2015 = 15th .293 OBP .307 SLG .600 OPS, 7.2 PA/GIDP (9.2 league avg)

2014 = 4th .345 OBP .452 SLG .797 OPS, 8.6 PA/GIDP (9.2 league avg)

2013 = 4th .349 OBP .460 SLG .809 OPS, 9.0 PA/GIDP (9.2 league avg)

2012 = 8th .328 OBP .435 SLG .763 OPS, 7.6 PA/GIDP (8.8 league avg)

2011 = 3rd .348 OBP .477 SLG .825 OPS, 9.1 PA/GIDP (9.3 league avg)

2010 = 2nd .350 OBP .469 SLG .819 OPS, 10.6 PA/GIDP (8.9 league avg)

2009 = 7th .334 OBP .455 SLG .789 OPS, 9.6 PA/GIDP (9.3 league avg)

2008 = 3rd .359 OBP .482 SLG .841 OPS, 8.6 PA/GIDP (8.9 league avg)

2007 = 3rd .349 OBP .481 SLG .830 OPS, 9.5 PA/GIDP (8.9 league avg)

2006 = 5th .343 OBP .497 SLG .840 OPS, 9.7 PA/GIDP (8.8 league avg)

2005 = 4th .346 OBP .486 SLG .832 OPS, 8.2 PA/GIDP (9.0 league avg)

2004 = 7th .344 OBP .471 SLG .815 OPS, 10.5 PA/GIDP (9.6 league avg)

2003 = 14th .296 OBP .364 SLG .660 OPS, 9.1 PA/GIDP (9.3 league avg)

The last time the Tigers had a sub-.700 OPS with a runner on 1st, with less than 2 outs was in 2003. It is clear this team is failing at epic proportions and I cannot imagine a single Tiger fan not being concerned.

I don't have the solution, I just know what the issue is. Easily, this team wins at least 2-3 games more if they were just league average in this situation. I could not see this team progressing far, if they do make the playoffs, without improving on this situation.

We all want the Tigers to be good. There is always ways to improve. Citing that the team was good when they GIDP is "spinning" the information, especially when only looking at a counting stat.
