Tigers need a win to keep from dropping a 3rd straight series.

Pelfrey has limited left-handed batters to a .194 batting average with a .576 OPS this season. He is off to a great start this season and pitched impressively against the Tigers late last month in Minnesota. His line in that start: 7IP, 3H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 7 SO.

This will be the third start against the Twins this season for Anibal Sanchez. His combined line from the first two starts: 13.2IP, 12H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 12 SO. He is 1-1 in those two starts.

Victor Martinez will get the day off, but he's expected to be available off the bench today if needed. He is 3 for 30 versus Minnesota in 2015, including 0 for 17 in the last four contests. He's 4 for his last 18 against Pelfrey.

Joe Mauer is 2 for his last 18 against Sanchez, he's batting .323 with nine RBIs in his last seven road contests and delivered a bases-loaded triple Tuesday.

Torii Hunter homered for the third time in five games but is 0 for 7 with two strikeouts versus Sanchez this season.
