In 2008 Ville Leino signed with Detroit following an amazing season in Finland recording 77 points in 55 games the 7th most in Finnish league history.

Ville Leino played parts of two seasons with Detroit recording 9 goals, 7 assists in 55 games. During his struggling second season with Detroit he was sent to Philadelphia at the deadline for a defenseman (contract spot) and a 5th round pick (Mattias Backman who was traded to Dallas as part of the dreaded Cole trade).

Those playoffs he recorded 21 points in 19 games. The following season he recorded 53 points in 81 game. He than signed 6 years $27 million deal with Buffalo where he underperformed and was bought out after 3 seasons.

He started the Bille Beino clothing brand following his buyout from Buffalo.

Quincey (Minnesota) and Tootoo (Chicago) both placed on waivers.

During the 2012 offseason Detroit signed Tootoo to a 3 year $5.7 million contract. Brought in as an tough guy enforcer, who just came off a career high 30 points in Nashville. Tootoo spent parts of two seasons before receiving a compliance buyout from Detroit. He recorded 3 goals, 6 assists, 9 points in 53 games for the Wings. He also played 1 playoff game during the lockout shortened 2012-13 season. To paraphrase Babcock, the reason for being scratched was playoffs were not the time for stupid penalties. (Compared to Abdelkader at 33PIM in 12 playoff games vs 2 PIM for Tootoo in his solo)

Following his departure from Detroit he spent two seasons in New Jersey and is currently on his second season with Chicago, yet to play a single game this season.

Kyle Quincey was originally drafted by Detroit in the 4th round, 134th overall during the 2003 draft. During his first stint with the team he played 13 games recording 1 goal as a callup between 2005-2008. Additionally he played 13 playoff games during the 2006-7 season recording 0 points.

He was lost to LA on waivers before the 2008-9 season and developed into a good offensive defenseman recording 38 points during his rookie season.
During the 2009 offseason was part of a package traded to Colorado to acquire Ryan Smyth. In Colorado he continued to perform well on the powerplay. After playing parts of 3 seasons in Colorado before being re-acquired by Detroit in a 3 team swap involving Tampa Bay at the 2012 trade deadline.. The trade saw Detoit’s 2012 1st round pick along with prospect Sebastian Piche going to Tampa Bay. Current Tampa Bay starter Andrei Vasilevskiy was chosen with Detroit’s 19th overall pick.

Quincey never adjusted well to Detroit’s system and over the years transformed his game from an offensive defenceman into almost a completely defensive defenceman in nature. During his second stint with Detroit over 5 seasons played a total of 256 games recording 14 goals and 34 assists for 48 points.

Departing in summer of 2016, as a free agent, signing with the New Jersey Devils. At the 2017 deadline was traded to Columbus. During the 2017 offseason he signed with the Minnesota Wild.

Guess I'll sneak this Gallant news in here seeing as he spent parts of 9 seasons with Detroit between 1984 - 1993. Recorded 207 goals, 260 assists for 467 points in Detroit through 563 games. He finished his career with 52 games with Tampa Bay.

In 1988-9 he was selected to NHL 2nd ALL Star team with Gretzky, Kurri, Bourque, MacInnis, and Vernon. That season he recorded a career high 93 points.

Poll of all coaches in NHL unanimously think Gallant is best coach this season.

If I find my post regarding his coaching I will cup/paste it here.

As noted previously, Mattias Janmark rejected callup from Swedish team for the WHC.

He had a career year with 34 points in 81 games. Ranked 5th in team scoring playing a middle 6 role for Dallas. He never played for the Red Wings and spent most of his development time in Sweden, only playing a handful of games for the Griffins.

After his rookie NHL season in 2015-16, he was sidelined the entire 2016-17 seasons with recovering from possibly career ending knee surgery. Glad to see Janmark made a recovery.

He previously left organization in the Erik Cole trade. With Janmark, prospect Mattias Backman and the Wings 2015 2nd round draft pick (Roope Hintz).

Roope Hintz was selected in 49th overall by Dallas and played his first AHL season in 2017-18 recording 35 points in 70 games for the Texas Stars. It remains to be seen if he can crack the NHL, given his age of 21 he still has a couple seasons left to prove himself.

Likewise, Mattias Backman never played a regular season game for Detroit. Following the trade to Dallas he spent couple seasons in the AHL. In summer of 2017, as an RFA, he was not qualified by Dallas and signed with EHC Kloten in Switzerland. He recorded 12 points in 41 games. Which was second among club defenseman behind Patrick von Guntzen who was forced into retirement near the end of the season.

Backman was originally drafted 145th overall in 2011 by Detroit.

Former part-time Red Wing Wendel Clark had his son Kody drafted 47th overall by the Washington Capitals.

Wendal Clark a 1999 trade deadline acquisition from Tampa Bay. He recorded 6 points in 12 regular season games and another 5 in 10 playoff games before departing in free agency the same summer.

In the trade the Wings received a 6th round pick (#181-Kent McDonell) while Tampa received goalie Kevin Hodson and 1999 2nd round pick (#47-Sheldon Keefe)
