Tigers 2017-2018 Off Season Thread

OF Troy Montgomery and P Wilkel Hernandez. Looks like they were ranked 20th and 24th in the Angels system.

The Tigers have traded Kinsler to the Angels for two prospects, right-hander Wilkel Hernandez and centerfielder Troy Montgomery, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation.

Montgomery, 23, is a .279 hitter in four minor-league seasons. He is the No. 20 ranked prospect in the Angels? system, according to MLBPipeline.com.

Hernandez, 18, is an Venezuelan prospect with upside who has yet to advance past rookie ball. He is the No. 24 ranked prospect in the Angels? system, according to MLBPipeline.com

Basically the Tigers have 3 bad contracts left. We will be stuck with 2 of them unless we eat of the money.

VMart has one year and 18 mil left and we may be able to move him near the deadline if he is healthy

Zimmerman has 3 years and 72 mil left and no one is touching that one unless we eat a lot of it.

Miggy has 6 years and 182 mil left and no way can we move him

Vmart will be off soon, it's the Zimmerman one that hurts. Miggy if healthy still can hit I suspect. I'm not upset with his so much, that's why guys get after a career like his. It's the length of the contract that kills.

In dealing Verlander, Kinsler, and Upton, Detroit traded away combined 144 of WAR and 14 ASG appearances while getting back just one Top 100 prospect (Franklin Perez). The message: DRAFT WELL OR ELSE...

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that there is "mutual interest" between the Tigers and free agent Fernando Rodney.
The 40-year-old right-hander is an odd fit for a rebuilding team, but perhaps the Tigers are thinking they could get a few good months out of Rodney in 2018 and then flip him for young talent. Rodney had a dreadful April in 2017 with the Diamondbacks but rebounded nicely after that, posting a 2.38 ERA and 52/19 K/BB ratio over his final 45 1/3 innings. He racked up 39 saves

$72M this season for the three of them. That's crazy!

Second basemen with at least 225 home runs and 225 stolen bases:
#Angels Ian Kinsler
Craig Biggio*
Ryne Sandberg*
Joe Morgan*

*Hall of Famer

2017 assignments of Tigers players picked up by other clubs in Rule5Draft:
RHP Francisco German: GCL Tigers West
LHP Locke St.John: Class A West Michigan
C/1B Will Allen: 86 games with High-A Lakeland, final 2 games of the year with Double-A Erie

In 4 years in Detroit, Kinsler amassed 19.9 WAR, 78 HRs, 300 RBI. You know, and all that other stuff (leadership, general amusement).

Regardless of return here, Tigers won the first trade, hands down. (Fielder had 0.4 WAR in 3 yrs for TEX).

Profile on Victor Reyes: 6'3, 170 pounds, 23-year-old switch-hitting RF who spent 2017 with Double-A Jackson. Hit .292 over 126 games. Average defender at all three OF positions. Doesn't generate a great deal of power, but good contact rate. #Rule5Draft
