Seeing this on twitter. Waiting for confirmation from reliable source like Jason Beck.

I sure hope this isn't just a 1-for-1. I'd at least like a reliever to come back this way too.

Tigers, Red Sox Nearing Deal To Swap Porcello, Cespedes
By Jeff Todd [December 11, 2014 at 8:55am CST]
The Tigers and Red Sox have agreed to a deal that will send outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to Detroit in return for starter Rick Porcello, C.J. Nitkowski of FOX Sports and MLB Network reports on Twitter. Indeed, Detroit is closing in on a deal involving Cespedes and Porcello as well as another trade, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. Detroit will also receive minor league pitching in the deal, per another Morosi tweet.

In moving Porcello, who is arb-eligible a final time before reaching free agency (at a projected $12.2MM salary), the Tigers would be making yet another stunning move involving the club’s high-powered rotation. He joins Doug Fister and Drew Smyly as former Detroit starters. The latter, of course, was part of the deal that brought David Price to Motown. It remains to bee seen whether the move would constitute a precursor to another pitching addition.

For Boston, meanwhile, this swap would close the loop on last summer’s Jon Lester trade, which brought in Cespedes. The club added several other outfield pieces to a crowded situation, which made another deal of some kind seem inevitable. Bringing back an arm of Porcello’s quality would certainly be a nice consolation prize for losing Lester.

Tigers swap sending Rick Porcello to Boston for Yoenis Cespedes a done deal.
from the OaklandPress

the Tigers will obtain a minor-league pitcher from the Red Sox in the deal, citing a source.
Boston will send two additional players with Cespedes to the Tigers, probably garbage.

Tigers expected to trade prospects for a starting pitcher in the second (non-Boston) trade today.

Supposedly getting minor league pitching in the Red Sox deal, plus another unknown trade is in the works.

Moronosi says #Tigers will obtain a starting pitcher from #Reds in second Tigers trade for prospects.

Cueto, Latos?

Looking at Cot's, Bailey is the only one signed long-term. He's inked through '19, with a '20 option. My guess would be Cueto or Latos, but who knows?

9:07am: Two additional players are headed from Boston to Detroit, Alex Speier of WEEI.com tweets.

The Tigers are nearing a deal with the Reds to add a starting pitcher, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports on Twitter. It is not clear if that swap is part of a three-team deal or, instead, is a separate transaction under contemplation.

If we pick up a #4 starter also without losing any major pieces this could be great for us.

If this leads us to getting Cueto or Latos, I am fine with this trade.

If they land Cueto with prospects, that would be a steal.

I agree. Otherwise I'm iffy on this trade, I know Porcello stunk the last month of the year, but he still had a great season while Cespedes had a career worst year offensively I believe.

Right, so you would have to figure water would find its level a bit. Porcello probably won't be such a beast again, and Cespedes will find his legs.
