Game Notes

-- A day after taking a baseball off the knee, the Detroit Tigers first baseman is back in the field and hitting in his usual No. 3 spot for the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies at Comerica Park (7:10 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).

--Tonight's pitching matchup, at least on paper, appears to be a tough one for the Tigers. Vince Velasquez is eighth in the National League in ERA (2.42) and has a nifty 0.99 WHIP. He's 10th in the National League with 59 strikeouts. Mike Pelfrey, while he's pitched better in recent outings, is still searching for his first win as a Tiger. Both are right-handers.

--The Tigers have won six of their last seven games, moving to within 4.5 games of the first-place White Sox in the American League Central. The offense is cranked up, evidenced by the fact Miguel Cabrera and Cameron Maybin were named American League Co-Players of the Week on Monday. Cabrera hit .500 with three homers and six RBIs. Maybin batted .600 with five RBIs and four stolen bases.

--The surprising Phillies are in third place in the National League East, two games behind the first-place Nationals. Philadelphia had the worst record in the National League in 2015.

No DL for Tigers' Jordan Zimmermann, but he will miss his next start

just turned on gamecast. first batter with 14 pitch AB...fouled off 7 straight pitches then singles.

Tough break on that being a hit. Kinsler's throw would have easily beat him if it wasn't air mailed over Miggy.

10th home run on the year...6th to right field...and I know at least 2 were to centerfield the last couple days.

After last season and the injuries I thought that maybe Miggy's days as a 35+ HR guy were over, he just didn't look like the power was still there. He's hammering the ball right now, average up to .319 too.

Right now it's just a matter of how many years near his peak he has left. 1-2 more? 3-5 more and he's going to go down as one of the legends.

There isn't a place in any ballpark that you can hit it and score VMart from 1st. Just fucking dumb!!
