Dirks out 12

Platooning is something we should really look at. Oakland does it with multiple positions, and they score a lot of runs doing it. It has made scrubs like Stephen Vogt and Brandon Moss look like All-Star hitters. The problem is, Ausmus doesn't seem to grasp the notion of a true platoon. He starts Davis against rightys sometimes, which begs the question.. what's the point? A true platoon could have us putting up a .800 OPS at any given position, if the players are right. A lefty to platoon strictly with Davis in CF would bring a lot of value.. Davis is over .800 OPS in his career vs. Leftys, I believe.

Yep. Right now, the main problem is that Davis, Carrera, and JD are our only healthy outfielders with any upside (fuck don kelly). When Dirks gets back, id platoon Hunter with him in a corner (or JD, whichever between him and hunter hits less), do a strict platoon with davis and carerra in center, and then start JD or hunter full time (whichever is hitting more). Its kind of a mess, but IMO its the best way to optimize our outfielders. We just need a couple in the offseason.

Honestly, we should be platooning catcher too. Get holiday the fuck out of here, bring up McCann and do a strict platoon with him and Avila.

Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Andy Dirks' hamstring issue is longer than a day-to-day situation.
Rand: "It wasn't just a 2- to 3-day kind of hamstring [injury]. We anticipate it's going to be more than that."

DIRKS UPDATE: He reinjured his hamstring running bases for TOL Sunday. Status? Uncertain.

Certainly not set in stone, but Brad Ausmus confirmed it's going to be very tough for Andy Dirks to return after suffering another setback.
