Will the Tiger offense make an appearance today? Can we get another solid pitching performance…and from Simon? The Red Sox broke an 8 game losing streak last night. The Tigers have lost 8 of their last 11 games and are 10.5 games back of the 1st place Royals and now 5 games back of the Twins for the last wild card spot.
Simon broke his streak of giving up 5 runs or more in 5 consecutive starts his last time out against Seattle…but he still gave up 4 runs in 5.2 innings. Simon has struggled on the road. He has a 6.08 era in 9 road starts. Lefties are hitting .314 and Simon has given up 10 of 11 homers on the season to lefties. Simon has a 9.31 era in 4 July starts and has failed to make it 6 innings in any of them. He’s gone 7 games without a quality start.
The right handed knuckle-baller Wright is being recalled from Triple A for the 2nd time in a week and is getting a spot start today for Eduardo Rodriguez. He was called up last week to start one of the double headers against the Angels. He lost and gave up a career high 6 runs in 5 innings.
Only 2 Tigers have faced Wright. Kruass is 1 for 3 with a walk and Gose is 0 for 2. Kinsler has 5 straight multihit efforts, batting .451 in his last 12 games and .415 in his past 10 at Fenway. The Tigers failed to homer for the 2nd consecutive game and are now 4-22 when they don’t hit a home run.
The Red Sox are hitting .200 (5 for 25) with 1 doubles and 1 home runs against Simon. Pedroia is 2 for 6 with a homer. Boston is 2-16 since June 8 when Pedroia is part of the lineup and 14-7 when he isn't. Pedroia hasn't played at Fenway since June 24 and is batting .406 during a 17-game hitting streak there. Bogaerts is hitting .397 in his last 17 games. The Red Sox have scored 14 runs in 8 games since the all star break.
Miggy joined the team yesterday for the 10 game road trip and took batting practice.
The forecast for Saturday calls for mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-70s.
