they laid off more workers. Trump not tweeting about this though...

sounds like a few of the Trump voters who worked there, emphasis on the past tense, are having buyer's remorse:

"Financially, I thought he's a genius. I said, 'Well, America's in debt; maybe he can do something and turn the economy around.' Obviously, it's not looking that way. Mr. Trump didn't do his research and made himself look silly in front of the nation when these layoffs and early retirements began," Duane Oreskovic, a Trump voter who lost his job Thursday, told the New Yorker.

In retrospect, Oreskovic concluded that he wishes he voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). "I would have voted for him if I could do it again," he said.

As Reuters reports, 1,000 workers will remain at the factory?in positions that were "never slated to move"?while the other "jobs are going to the company's plant in Monterrey, Mexico, where workers make about $3 an hour." Carrier, however, will continue to benefit from the $7 million in state tax breaks it was rewarded for keeping its factory in Indiana.

Speaking at an Indianapolis town hall meeting on Wednesday ahead of the layoffs, Chuck Jones, former president of United Steelworkers 1999, slammed Trump for selling workers false hope.

"I think everybody ought to respect the president of the United States and the office he holds," Jones told an audience of workers, many of whom voted for the president in the 2016 election. "But Donald Trump is a liar and an idiot."

Jones immediately criticized Trump after his initial deal with Carrier was announced, calling out the president for inflating the number of jobs he personally "saved." Now retired, Jones is still on the attack, despite receiving death threats after Trump attacked him on Twitter in December.

This is a great anecdote. A single quote from one laid off worker proves literally every measurable statistic that shows the economy is growing is wrong. His job is gone, the economy sucks.

But Bernie probably would have saved his job - you know by raising taxes and the minimum wage because price controls are how you get growth (Cuba, Venezuela - they would be the shining stars of the global economy if it wasn't for all those US tax dollars spent to undermine and ruin it).

And the former union president - those are powerful words. Trump lied and he's an idiot. Except the plant is still in the US and still employing 1,000 workers. Just think how much better off they would be if the plant was shut down and moved to Mexico last year.

Trump said that was gonna tax the living shit outta businesses who moved manufacturing out of the country...even though he doesn't have the ability to do that on his own, and the corporate sock-puppets in Congress would never legislate for higher import tariffs. Carrier is a subsidiary of the YUUGE military contractor United Technologies, who stand to rake in moar billions with Trump's stated goal of increased military spending, and THAT is definitely doable..IF the GOP retain majority control of Congress in '19.

Most of Trump's own products, especially his and his daughter Ivanka's signature toggery were mfg overseas, so why anyone would believe his MAGA BS is a mystery...or more likely sucker stupidity.

More $$$ to the MIC provides a perfect excuse for Republicans' desire of cutting/gutting/eliminating spending domestically and socially. Their so-called "Tax Cuts And Jobs Act" does absolutely nothing to prevent businesses from continuing to offshore and outsource jobs or create new ones elsewhere.

Oh for fuck sake ...did anyone not a stupid, white man think the Carrier plant would benefit from a guy who has done nothing but farm out manufacturing overseas, specifically in China?

And sorry, your coal plant isn't coming back in PA and neither is your Michigan manufacturing job being done by a robot now.

Trump LIED and is LYING and will continue to LIE....

what does their race have to do with it?

Also, coal fired plants are all over the country, not just in PA - did you mean coal mines? The reason coal isn't coming back is because of natural gas prices. If the left ever gets their fracking ban, watch how quickly coal plants come back online.

...

you have a problem with anecdotes? funny, anecdotal evidence is how Conservatives have pushed basically all their initiatives since the 80's... from welfare reform to gutting union labor protections.

and even worse, Conservatives love video anecdotes, like the heavily edited ones From James O'Keefe that took down ACORN, or the ones used to bash poor third world countries that you and jdilco are fawning over in the other thread.

and it's misleading and unfair to cite Venezuela or Cuba... Norway, Sweden, Finland... those are more or less socialist countries that do it right. Of course unlike Venezuela and Cuba, they don't have to deal with trade embargoes from the US that cripple their foreign trade, or continuous attempts by the CIA to assassinate their leaders and destabilize their governments...
