OT: Paterno Knew (and We Knew He Knew)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...records/?postshare=3711468329658719&tid=ss_tw

More unsealed docs coming out ...going to get bad for PSU, Paterno legacy and the whole University in the coming days and weeks..

Give them the death penalty and expel them from the BigTen.

Exactly this. Hell, they should get a worse penalty than SMU. Cancel a full season, five year bowl ban, two years of no home games, thrown out of Big 10, let every current player leave without having to sit out, and reduce scholarships by at least 10 per year (15 would be better) for five years. Burn the program to the ground.

How did Mike McQueary walk away from this thing blame free?

wait, wait, wait, where's your concern for PennState athletics here? after all, people (see posts above yours) are calling for severe sanctions against the school. this is where you're supposed to post your schpiel about how this should be only a criminal matter, not an athletic matter, and therefore it's wholly inappropriate for the NCAA to try to punish the school/football team for this (while ignoring the fact that Sandusky has been convicted and is in prison, and other charges are ongoing).

these allegations are pretty ****ed up, as are the (albeit anecdotal) evidence penn state fans are claiming these latest allegations are lies.

yes, Sandusky is in prison, and Spanier, Curly, and Schultz were fired and are fighting perjury charges, all because dozens of victims all independantly decided to just make this shit up.

I kinda wish some PennSt fans posted here so we could ruin them.

I've said about a million times that I think this rises to a level of seriousness where football penalties are inappropriate as are penalties the primarily impact innocent people...HOWEVER...reading between the lines here of an email that just went out, Penn State's President is suggesting this guy is lying, or at least trying to get people to think he might be.

I still think this is too serious to be dealt with with scholarship, postgame bans, the death penalty *(keep reading), or anything that happens on a football field, but the continued efforts to restore the statue, the Paterno name still being on the library, and the President with this email shows (to me) that the leadership of the institution is still in denial. I don't know who has the authority to level appropriate penalties, but if organizations such as the Big Ten and the CIC (or whatever it's called now), or the NCAA wanted to disassociate with Penn State, I wouldn't be opposed. An effective death penalty would be a side effect, and I don't think I have a problem with that. I think you'd have to threaten disassociation and give them a chance to avoid it by putting the right leadership in place. I still believe there are Penn State people that understand, but they're not in charge and they need to be. Their BOD needs to be gutted and replaced too. I still suspect there are BOD members that knew more than has become public and they dodged a serious investigation by putting out that Freeh report. People focus so much on football, I think guilty people are going missed. Here's the email:

Statement from Penn State President Eric Barron related to anticipated unsealing of court documents
"Today, information is being released by the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas related to a lawsuit between Penn State and its insurer, Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association. For its part, the University does not plan to provide additional comment on these matters, as this information has largely already been covered by media.
Penn State's overriding concern has been, and remains, for the victims of Jerry Sandusky. While individuals hold different opinions, and may draw different inferences from the testimony about former Penn State employees, speculation by Penn State is not useful. We must be sensitive to all individuals involved, and especially to those who may be victims of child sexual abuse. It also makes it much more difficult for Penn State to create an environment where victims of sexual abuse feel comfortable coming forward and where students, faculty and staff feel protected in reporting wrongdoing.
Although settlements have been reached, it also is important to reiterate that the alleged knowledge of former Penn State employees is not proven, and should not be treated as such. Some individuals deny the claims, and others are unable to defend themselves.
Speculation also serves to drive a wedge within the Penn State community. I would ask that we remember our University's primary mission is to focus on research, education and service. Let's be respectful of other viewpoints and focus on our mission. The University is committed to ensuring our campuses are safe for children, and to ongoing prevention and education programs and research that contribute to a better society.
I want to thank our Penn State community for caring so deeply about not only our university during these difficult times, but also for the victims of child abuse."
Eric J. Barron Penn State President

I was typing it up when you posted this.

The current OSU DC, Greg Schiano now implicated as having known of Sandusky's vile behavior all along too ...

article on reddit that both Greg Schiano and UCLA's Tom Bradley both knew about the Sandusky situation while at PennSt. Schiano (apparently?) reported it to JoePa(???) but stopped short of anything after that.

How in the **** can you stand idly by when someone is preying on children? What type of human garbage do you have to be to do nothing in that type of situation? I will never be able to understand.

on twitter someone posted an excerpt of the McQueary deposition, where he claims another coach told him Schiano witnessed Sandusky abusing a kid directly

(if I'm reading this right)

which would be hearsay... so ... typically not admissable in court... but yikes.

Sounds like most of this new unsealed court testimony is as a result of the Insurance Co fighting the judgment to pay the victims ..? Is this an attempt to redirect the lawsuits towards the school or Paterno family?

turns my stomach.

Schiano's not dead. Summon him.

Schiano was almost our coach instead of RR if you believe Stewart Mandel.

the deadspin article said PennState and their insurer are fighting over who owes what

insurer's position is that their liability here is limited because PennSt knew they had a problem and covered it up. basically they didn't disclose the potential liability/risk when buying the policy so the insurer has no duty to insure or something like that.

I guess McQueary's coaching career did end in 2011. I either didn't know or forgot that.

I'm thinking Keith Olbermann is about to log in to twitter and start going off on PennState fans, again. and maybe he'll drop some more napalm on Penn St and the NCAA.

You gotta love Olbermann... stung by his criticism of the school, PennSt fans tweet him about their lame "dance marathon" fundraiser, as though that addresses anything he said. and he gives them no credit.

"We are..."

"Pathetic"

Lol

exactly. Akin to non-disclosure of a pre-existing medical condition

Has anyone ever heard about Paterno's business deals with Second Mile people? This is new to me. Some random anonymous online person claims the following:
It was more than football. If you look up the land deals involved with the Second Mile charity it becomes much more clear why Paterno didn't turn him in. It's alleged that Sandusky would pick locations for new facilities and tell Paterno and other associates where to buy the land. Paterno would then purchase the land at market value and resell to Second Mile at double the price. With the state offering matching grants for land purchased by charities Paterno and others made millions running this scam.

I haven't found anything about that, but there was this:
The Daily reported Monday that Paterno and three fellow investors, including longtime Second Mile board chairman Robert Poole, secured financing to build a $125 million luxury retirement community around 2002, according to public records.
