The Heart of the lineup for the 1961 Detroit Tigers. Al Kaline, Rocky Colavito and Norm Cash. These three combined for 115 home runs, 357 RBIs, and a .298 average. The Tigers team led the American League with 841 runs scored. The Tigers were 101-61, but finished well behind the 109-win Yankees.

Two great gentlemen of the game Al Kaline and Brooks Robinson, 1974. Photo by J. D. McCarthy. Both players spent their entire Major League Baseball careers with a single team: Kaline with the Detroit Tigers and Robinson with the Baltimore Orioles.
Kaline was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980; Robinson was inducted in 1983.

Al finished 2nd in the MVP balloting to Ellie Howard, 2nd to yaz for the batting title, and won the Sporting News American League Player of the year award.

A 20-year-old Al Kaline celebrates his 200 hit season in 1955. Oh ya, he also hit .340 that year to become the youngest player to ever win a batting title. That record has yet to be broken, and led the American League in Total Bases 321.

"Kaline's Corner"Briggs Stadium had box seats in RF that jutted out into the field.
Al Kaline had banged into those seats during 1954 season. In order to protect his investment, Owner Walter Briggs oversees removal of seats in RF 1954. Any other time ball park is modified for a player?
