Game 19 - Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals, April 16, 2026, 1:10 PM

I heard on the radio early from Dickerson that Torkelson had been on base 21 of his last 39 times. Did I hear that right ? I think that was two at bats ago on my way home. So hopefully his homers will start to come.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

Less than 2 weeks into the season, the Tigers Opening Day roster is already changing. All due to the significant injury experienced by Parker Meadows.
It’s interesting how a single event can change the entire dynamics of a team. It’s similar to when you line up dominoes and tilting just 1 creates a chain of events. That is what’s happening here.
You’ll see it in my comments below along with other interesting observations created by Meadows’ injury. Here are my 5 most interesting observations and changes I noticed after Parker’s collision with Riley Greene.

I don't think replacing Meadows with Perez creates a better roster.

I’m hoping perez is a stop gap and or part of a rotation of him Baez and Vierling until Clark or someone else comes along that will be an everyday player.

Maybe Riley Greene is slow in the outfield, maybe he doesn't get a good read on the ball, but he sure looks fast scoring in this game from second base to win it.

Kevin McGonigle during the Tigers 6 game win streak:
26 PA
.368/.538/.684
1 HR
7 R
26.9 BB%
11.5 K%
240 wRC+
0.5 fWAR
An integral part to this team’s success.

Riley Greene is just the 14th player in franchise history to reach 100 career doubles before his 26th birthday.

Keider Montero has had a tough job the last few years as Detroit's defacto 6th starter, getting optioned out 6 times in '25 alone. In '26, Montero is making a case to stick around for good. Both his BB + K rates have improved by 5%, his xERA is 1.20 and he's put up 0.8 fWAR already.

We won all three games against Kansas City by runs scored in our last half-inning at the plate (B8, B8, B9). It marked the 6th time in franchise history doing so in a series that's at least three games long.

Luke Ritter, who hit 97 homers in the Mets' farm system from 2019-25, is signing a minor league deal with the Tigers and will join AAA Toledo.

People can be mad at Tyler Holton for allowing the HR, but it was the first run he's allowed this season.
