Friday nights game: Did the Tigers make the wrong call in the 10th inning?Runner on third, one out: Colt Keith and Kerry Carpenter watched from the bench.
A.J. Hinch: "We're obviously looking for contact there.
"Contact rate in 2026: Wenceel Pérez: 91.4%.
Spencer Torkelson: 72.5%.
Kerry Carpenter: 60.7%.
Colt Keith: 75.7%.
Makes sense why Carpenter didn't hit for Pérez. Thought Keith might've been an option instead of Torkelson.

Through 20 games, Detroit's offense ranks:
17th in wRC+
15th in BB%
14th in K%
20th in FanGraphs' Baserunning metric
Their OF defense ranks 29th in OAA.

In 17 AAA games, Max Clark has a 171 wRC+, 12.3 BB% + 7.4 K% to go w/ strong baserunning + D. Something to keep an eye on.
So, it's not a matter of if, more a matter of when regarding Max Clark. He will have to continue to rake for 2-4 more weeks minimum, then it's a matter of how weak the current CF rotation is producing
Remember the gap between AAA and major league pitching.

Max Clark crushes this ball for his first Triple-A homer. Left his bat at 108.4 MPH and went an estimated 414 feet. He’s 4-for-4 tonight, and Toledo leads 5-1.

MLB Team Bullpen ERA vs Starters ERA.

We have to watch at bats like Perez last night with a runner on 3rd and today with the bases loaded.
Torkelson again whiffs with bases loaded and 1 out. Go look at his career bases loaded stats. They are not good. So frustrating. Before we lose value on some tgese youngsters trade for a
Damn rhb... Perez is now batting
.050. Yikes .

21 games in now tork 3k’s today hitting .194 with no HR’s

Not impressed

Skubal falling apart in the 5th

2 stressful innings for Skubal, close to 90 pitches. Does he pitch the 7th inning or go to the bullpen?

The tigers doubled the size of the strike zone that half inning; definitely not what AJ advocated for.

Masterful Skubal K's 10, keeps Boston's bats quiet.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers once again have several starting pitchers who have won multiple Cy Young Awards. You know who they are.
Both Tarik Skubal and Justin Verlander have contracts that expire after this year. Skubal is almost certainly leaving the team for what is expected to be a record-setting new deal. Verlander’s future is more uncertain.
Like the previous week in which we put you through multiple “hard choice” polls, we’re doing it again. But this time we’re asking you to delve deeper into the question because it is a complicated one.
If you could pick only 1 of these guys, who would you want to have the better year in comparison with their previous years? Skoobs or JV?
It’s not as easy as it sounds.
How would your choice impact contracts, next year’s rotation, your reason to watch and even The Baseball Hall of Fame?
There are many advantages as well as disadvantages to be considered.
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!
For this one blog only, you’ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can also respond to other readers.
TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
Ready?

Which pitcher do you want to have the better year?

1. Tarik Skubal

2. Justin Verlander

JV is just a #5 pitcher at this point in his career. Him playing any better doesn't help the team much, so by default, I went with Skubal
