Game #39: Detroit Tigers @ Kansas City Royals, Friday May 8th, 2026, 7:40 Pm

Lmao
Btw
Why didn’t Holton stay for the lefty’s ? I have sound muted
But box does not have pinch hitters.
AJ is dumb.
Kyle our best relief pitcher but he sucks tonight and
Perez. Is just not a major league player. Turns a single
Into a little league triple, and probably another tigers
loss. This is such a bad fielding team.

My god this pen sucks.
This team cant get out of its own way.
Was he Planning on using Jansen In the 9th?

Hurter in
Tork starts a double play.
There is a lefty who hits .223 on deck. Be careful .
Playing with fire with SP .had him 0-2 and 1-2
Walks a .195 hitter.
Righty Thomas pinch hits 4-3 inning over .
We need a new RF . I do not care that he has two hits.
He cannot field the position good enough.
3-3 top ninth .

Man this team pisses me off and
Harris’s pen wastes another good start.

It is really tough for this bullpen to not have somebody slump on any given day.

Tigers 9th
3-3 game
McKinstry double
Short fails to sacrifice bunt pops out.
Carpenter f-9 Shallow.
McGonigle BB
Keith. Pop Ss. Awful at bat. 2 pitches .

I can’t stand Zach short. Im so tired of such crap play by AJ’s team.
I ****ing thought bunting was bad. Why is he on this team ?

Keith has 34 hits. Batting .321. 7 doubles and 27 singles. Can you at least bear down colt . He freaking has only 6 RBIs. That can’t be right?

Sigh
Hurter gives up a 2 out double and a single to a freaking lefty.
The losing streak continues. Now at 4

Bad managing
Bad relief pitching
Bad hitting.
Just awful fielding.

Must be nice to have .282 ph (Lofton) and a .283 9th hitter. (Isbel)
Because the tigers do not have that.

Tigers cant even win when our two best relief pitcher's pitch.

That play by Perez has to be the Last straw for him. Do not care about his hits. That was embarrassing. He can’t field his position well enough.

Why is Hurter not using his sweeper to the lefty in the 9th ?
That pitch was a BP right over the heart of the plate, and it just made the outfield.

Perez is not throwing anyone out at home. What a little league mistake of an error. Please for the love of god send him to Toledo. .

My guess is Harris is afraid to call up the kids including both Max’s. Because he will find none of them can hit. I mean it’s a miracle if the tiger organization finds a decent hitting prospect. Getting tired of the Harris is building this team.

Btw heads up.
I will be out 11-8 Saturday. Someone else will have to do the lineups.

Tigers minors

Workman big night now batting .354. Anderson back from Lakeland had a nice game at the plate. Walk and a hit 2 runs.

It was going so well until it wasn’t.

Wenceel Pérez error destroys Detroit Tigers in brutal loss vs Royals.
A hard-hit ground ball from Kyle Isbel shot past diving first baseman Spencer Torkelson and into right field, then snuck underneath the glove of right fielder Wenceel Pérez, rolling to the warning track.
It was a game-changing mistake for the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Since we last took the pulse of fans about this 2026 season, things have changed with the team. Certainly injuries to key players have taken their toll.
But now, the Tigers’ were just swept by the struggling Red Sox and haven’t won more than 2 games in a row for almost a month. Through Thursday’s games, the Detroit Tigers sit 2 games under .500.
They have lost more games than they’ve won for the majority of the year. Only once has their record reflected 2 more wins than losses since the season started.
Why is this happening?
Offensively, they rank #10 in most cases for team BA, SLG, OPS and RISP, although it often doesn’t appear that way.
So what are the other factors at play?
Could it be due to losing the majority of their original starting rotation – Jobe, Mize, Olson, Skubal and Verlander?
Could it be due to their bullpen which has been impacted by injuries and a closer with a 5.40 ERA and 1.650 WHIP? Kenley Jansen has the 5th highest ERA in MLB for a closer, however the bullpen overall ranks #10.
Could it be due to their poor defense? They rank last in MLB with -14 Outs Above Average and commit 1 error in app. every 1.5 games. Overall, they rank #25 in defense with only the catcher position showing plus defense.
We know it’s most likely due to a combination of all 3 factors but which one is the biggest factor in their struggles to get and stay above .500?

Which part of the roster is the biggest contributor to the Tigers' performance struggles?

1. Loss of multiple SPs to the IL.

2. The bullpen, esp. their closer.

3. Their defense.

All of the above.
Im really starting to think Harris has done a poor job constructing this team.

Remember I cannot do the game thread today. I will not be home till 8pm.

I agree. Bringing Torres back, signing a 38 year old closer to a pretty large contract, Anderson off the scrap heap, botching the Skubal situation this off season, and as much as I like JV, he's 42 as well.
