Guardians 4 - Tigers 3: A close game, but the Tigers continue their losing streak.
BYBTB

Guardians are beating Tigers at their own game right now and it feels terrible.
The Guardians are succeeding where the Tigers have failed in 2026.
MCBTB

Tigers hold Guardians to only four hits, but still lose, 4-3.
Better game. More competitive effort. Same result.

The Cleveland Guardians beat the Tigers for the second straight night at Comerica Park, holding on for a 4-3 win Tuesday night.
"This was a vintage game against them," manager AJ Hinch said. "We've been on the right side of a lot of these and we've been on the wrong side. I hope this is a sign of things to come in that we created a few opportunities...We did give ourselves that chance. But it doesn't feel good coming out with another loss."
Detnews

Detroit Tigers whiff on big chance in another loss to rival Guardians.
Another day, another loss.
The Detroit Tigers have lost 12 of 14 games, all since losing left-hander Tarik Skubal to the injured list – and now, they've dropped two straight to the Cleveland Guardians in an American League Central rivalry.
This time, the Tigers took a 4-3 loss to the Guardians on Tuesday, May 19, in the second of four games in the series at Comerica Park, with the Guardians scoring the go-ahead run off left-handed reliever Tyler Holton in the seventh inning.
Freep

Fading Tigers fall further back of Guardians with fourth loss in row.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

There’s no need to remind anyone just how poorly the Detroit Tigers have been playing. However, the tv broadcast crew on Monday night stated that it’s due to the loss of Tarik Skubal, whom they believe to be the team’s leader.
Their proof? Dating from the day of the announcement that Skubal would need surgery, the Tigers have gone 2 and 11.
How valid is their rationale to explain why the Tigers are having a very hard time winning?

How valid is the claim that the loss of Tarik Skubal is the primary reason for the Tigers' extensive losing record?

1. Very valid reason.

2. It's somewhat of a factor but not the primary one.

3. Not much of a factor at all.

I didn't hear them say that, but I wouldn't say it is the primary reason, but it is a big reason. He may not be a vocal leader, I'm sure he is a leader by example. Players have a different feeling when they have that ace going every 5 days. He also tends to help the pen because he usually doesn't go 3 innings like some of these turds. Also having him would lead to fewer BP games, which of course, taxes the pen even more. That said, there are a lot of reasons. Missing the middle of your defense (SS, 2B, and CF) doesn't help, playing musical chairs with almost every position doesn't help defensively, and calling up players that can't hit or play defense, certainly is adding insult to injury.

3. Not much of a factor.

the biggest problem is they have too many lousy hitters in the line up most nights. it in theory should help slightly when Carp and Torres are back but overall.

Perez
Short
Jones
Rodgers
McKinstry

Are essentially auto outs most of the time.

Tork under .200 is not helping
Keith only hits singles now, not helping

These 7 items are the biggest problem. it adds up to an overall offense that can't hit their way out of a wet paper sack and come through with RISP, too many holes.

The worst hitter in the history of MLB Zack Short and the little league. He is still without a hit and for the record Zack Short hit .141 in 2021 the first time he played for the Tigers.

Jahmai Jones & Matt Vierling getting more at bats than Riley Greene in a one run game.

In his 11 games this season with Toledo, Max Anderson has yet to go without a hit. Carrying a four-game Triple-A hit streak into his IL stint with Lakeland, Anderson is back with the Hens…and still hitting.

The Detroit Tigers since May 4 (fourteen games) are batting .122 with RISP, which is unsurprisingly last in baseball by over 35 points (Angels .159). The team is 12-98 in that stretch after going 0-5 tonight.

This is really simple. Kevin McGonigle:April .328/.426/.509 May .213/.324/.230
April Record: 16-16 May: 4-13
The team was mediocre but hanging around with him lighting the world on fire.
Now they are in a free fall with him struggling. What does that tell us? We were short a hitter in April but you take McGonigle out of the mix and it gets ugly fast.
Gleyber out hurts as he was getting on at a .389 clip but only had 4 extra base hits out of 144 PA’s, but as this team stands we are at a minimum short a big bat and a decent bat to really compete. This is a roster construction issue and selling yourself a story that the internal guys were better than they are collectively.

This guy in the link needs a swirly.
