WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers
The trade deadline is set for next Monday and it’s expected that the majority of teams will be waiting until the last couple of days to make their moves.
The Tigers, wisely, have not yet shown their hand. Their play has once again been inconsistent but they do play in the AL Central, MLB’s weakest division. They remain 6 games out of 1st place (through Monday’s games).
Detroit has 6 players about to become free agents. Only a couple of them will merit a qualifying offer that could be turned into an extra draft pick. The others, if they stay, will walk for nothing.
The Tigers will have to walk that fine line between trading many players, resulting in a potential fall in performance and trading only a couple strategic pieces. Or they could decide to “go for it” and be buyers.
On the other hand, the Tigers could be both sellers and buyers. Trading off a free agent or two while filling holes in the roster.
What should they do?
With the trade deadline near, what should the Tigers do?
1. Be sellers.
2. Be buyers.
3. Be both sellers and buyers.
