2025 MLB and Tigers Trade Deadline Thread

The Detroit Tigers trade deadline went over like a lead balloon.
Scott Harris’ muted approach saw the Tigers lose some ground to most of the league’s other top contenders while they remain focused on the long-term future.

Detroit Tigers grade for Charlie Morton trade: Did better starter get pushed to bullpen?
Freep

It's also fair to wonder if the Tigers replaced a better starter with a worse one by acquiring Morton and pushing Melton to the bullpen. The reality is, the 24-year-old Melton fits in the bullpen for two reasons: to limit his innings as a way to protect the health of his arm, and to create a much-needed swing-and-miss weapon against right-handed hitters.

Detroit Tiger fans need to look beyond the stats of the new players acquired at the trade deadline. It's never about 1 factor. Other than stats, what was the team looking at before trading?
1. Statistical and video analysis that supports improvement under a new system/coaching.
2. Splits that favorably align the player w/Comerica.
3. Experience and mentorship to help MLB's youngest roster.
4. Playoff and World Series experience.
5. Help w/increasing whiff rates.
6. Arms that can eat innings as young pitchers face innings limits.
7. Character and leadership.
8. Personality fit with rest of the roster.

Days of Roar Tigers Podcast: Trade deadline fallout: Are Detroit Tigers missing Tarik Skubal window? 75 minutes.

The Detroit Tigers had a 4-2 record this week, sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks and dropping a series to the Philadelphia Phillies — but the biggest news came off the field: Reese Olson is out for the regular season (and possibly the postseason) with a shoulder injury. Evan Petzold — joined by "Locked On Tigers" host Scott Bentley — take a deep dive into the trade deadline: Did Scott Harris make the right call by prioritizing quantity over quality? And is he making a mistake by not capitalizing on the Tarik Skubal window?

Washington Nationals beat writer Andrew Golden, who works for the Washington Post, joins "Days of Roar" to introduce Tigers fans to new reliever Kyle Finnegan, whom the Tigers acquired from the Nationals at the trade deadline. After talking to Golden, Petzold and Bentley debate: Who gets the ball in the biggest moment — Finnegan, Will Vest or Tommy Kahnle? We also discuss Reese Olson's injury history and Troy Melton's move to the bullpen.
