ALDS 2025 Divisional Rd Game #2: Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners, Sunday October 5th, 8:03 Pm

Skubal was barely a top 50 prospect at his absolute highest point. Never higher than 5th in Detroits org.

Even after having a very strong 2019 in the minors.

So like I said, he was not a top prospect. A 50th ranked prospect is about lining out to be a 4th or 5th starter. Not one of the best guys in baseball.

Mize was expected to be that.

Skubal was then a borderline starter for 2 years, 35 homers allowed in 21, then got hurt in the midst of a decent 3rd year

Now go back to his 4th year and look at his first few starts, dude got rocked in half of them, then something clicked.

Skubal had stuff, but he required a 4 year time investment to figure it out.

Pretending this didn't happen is crazy talk lol.

Par for the course for this board though, be damned if we give the org any credit for anything.
Pre 2021 skubal prospect rankings

Baseball America #20
Major league baseball #24

Disagree with my opinions all you want, but stop just straight up lying about facts.

Bringing up his first couple starts coming off flexor tendon surgery that required him to miss a year is a hilarious miss at trying to prove he sucked pre AJ

You have the arrogance of rebbiv, but 1/10th the knowledge

Just because I think your temper tantrums about AJ are ridiculous doesnt make me arrogant.

You come on here with your piss in everyone's cheerios attitude and it sucks.

I see Mitch hasn't posted since his last interaction with you.

Go look at every subjective poll about AJ Hinch from players in the league and people who opinions matter and they will all say hes a top 10 coach in baseball. At worst.

Preseason, OK sure Skubal was 24th. He imploded in 21. Wasn't anything remotely what he became until well into 2023.

Who gets credit for that? Surely not the staff.

But for real, aside from game threads, discussing this stuff with you specifically sucks. You blaming the mods for people leaving is hilarious bro. People don't want all this negativity.

You exude it.

Imploded in 21???? How so? He had a strong first full season.

A 2 war pitcher in his first full season while on a innings limit being called bad is wild.

By your logic, AJ and the staff must've made Mize and Manning worse then. Is that how this goes?

There is reason for frustration, but I don't understand calling yourself a fan and rooting for your team to lose. I again point to the preseason expectations people on this board had, then add losing Jobe and Olson for most of the season.

The hitting is very hard to watch at times, no question there, but again this is the big reason Harris is staying put with the guys he has coming up. We simply don't have a top 5 to 8 offense.

Maybe due to my Browns Fandom I have some kind of reasonable perspective to sports, but man is it hard to enjoy discussing the Tigers here and is why I barely have any posts on this site in 13 years.
So now youre policing posters Fandom? Whatever floats your boat, I guess

it would be fair to say I'm phycological damaged as a result of growing up a Lions fan. I want to believe, I really do. Unfortunately negativity is a default position for me half full half empty. yadda yadda. Cautiously optimistic for the Lions this year.

Tigers. Not confident at all, the offense is putrid and will be some improvement next year.

His FIP was a 5.09 and he gave up 35 home runs man. Youre out here crushing bull pen guys with substantially better metrics than that.

Yes, whatever work they did with Skubal clearly worked.

Mize was injuries. He was a dominant minor league player from the go. Missed basically 2 entire seasons of ball, just now getting on track.

Not sure you can unwind the clock there. Still a reasonable number 3 or 4 option.

Manning is just a bust. I will say i didnt like the Maeda signing and would have preferred they work more on Manning in the majors because Toledo is a suckfest of late for pitchers.

A new organization hasn't helped him any. Bad draft pick.

The offense down the stretch was horrendous, no question. Didn't help virtually everyone except Carp was playing over their heads and all regressed to mean simultaneously.

But go look at their average year, compare it to this and most everyone is in line except Carp and idk what Meadows is, 60 day plus of injuries couldn't have helped, but he isnt the hitter he was end of last year. Clearly.

Tigers need a big bat to hold over until the AA guys make it up.

So we use injuries for Mize, but not skubal. Got it

Skubal was a number one pick? I must have missed that.

Mize was almost certainly robbed of his top end rotation stuff because of injuries. His hamstrings the last 2 years.

We get it man, same drum you keep beating, that somehow the Tigers organization is simultaneously stacked to the point they should be cake walking into the World Series if not for AJ Hinch, while also not having an owner that spends on an elite level.

Last years playoff team roster was 18.8 million lol. This year is 97. With Baez, Flaherty and Torres accounting for most of it, Tommy Kahnle is the 5th most expensive.

You clearly can't make a decent point and its likely annoying to others here so snooze it is
