ALDS 2025 Divisional Rd Game #2: Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners, Sunday October 5th, 8:03 Pm

He took a bullet for the Betts trade. Which was a bad one. But the man has won a whole lot more trades than he has lost.

I will post game 3 sometime tomorrow. I really thought they would win Skubals start tonight.
Tork went to RF like I asked and the two guys after him did not have good at bats.

When this team was 59-34 we all know it would slow down.
But the hitting approach’s have really changed since then.
Maybes it’s the whole team hitting the Wall.
Maybes it’s just to many platoon players hitting the wall.
Hopefully Tuesday. I would sure like to see a crooked
Tigers number for Runs !

This is what it says about Skubal. Maybe you are both right.

Hell all I know is he probably won’t be resigned so losing
Good Skubal starts pisses me off because we can’t hit.

AJ. Hinch became the manager of the Detroit Tigers on
October 30, 2020, signing a multi-year contract.
Scott Harris was hired as the President of Baseball Operations for the Detroit Tigers in September 2022
. He did not take over the entire franchise, which remains in the hands of the Ilitch family.

Tarik Skubal was a prospect from the 2018 MLB Draft through his MLB debut in August 2020. After being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the ninth round, he rapidly rose through their minor league system, becoming one of the top five prospects in the organization before making his major league debut.

Key Dates & Events
  • 2018 MLB Draft: The Detroit Tigers drafted Skubal in the ninth round.

  • First Full Minor League Season: He began his first full professional season in 2019, quickly moving up to Double-A Erie.

  • Top Prospect Status: By early 2020, Skubal had emerged as a top-five prospect within the Tigers' organization.

  • MLB Debut: He made his Major League debut for the Detroit Tigers on August 18, 2020.
The "Prospect" Period
Skubal's time as a prospect was characterized by his rapid development in the Tigers' minor league system, where he demonstrated a dominant ability to strike out batters. This period concluded when he was promoted to the major leagues, solidifying his transition from prospect to established MLB player.

Again though, dude was not good for a solid 2 years. Then got hurt. No one on this planet forsaw Skubal becoming what he has. I know there were discussions about his stuff, and he is probably part why Harris is so obsessed with stuff metrics. Tarik Skubal gave up 9 home runs in 32 innings in 2020. That is not a typo.

Anyone trying to argue AJ came into an easy situation is flat out lying. 2019 the team was 47 and 114.

Bad owner, bad gm. 5 seasons later back to back playoffs.

DD went to Boston and Phillies. They both Spend big bucks just like the Chris’s father did. If we were top 5 we would be the Favorite with Skubal. You saw our deadline. Either Harris is clueless how to trade or he just loves his kids down on the farm. He did get Finnegan. He helped till he got hurt. Sadly not tonight.

Look I hope he is proven right. I want an another title.
I really also think when DD was sent off did any of us want his replacement. Avila ? I can’t remember.
Not at all. Most here loved Dave and didn't want Avila. Only thing people complained about was Dave not getting us a bullpen. Id take him back in a heartbeat right now over the current guy.

2 more solo homers tonight.
3rd on the team at 18 homers in the regular season in 195 innings

Yeah I remember the bullpen being an issue.

One thing that bugs me about baseball now is there is no
Real average guys anymore.
I guess everyone like the homers now.

Goodnight everyone . Heading to bed .

American League had only 5 guys over .300
Judge……...331

Skubal had tommy john surgery and missed a year and a half of college which caused him to fall. The guy was lights out the second he showed up after being drafted. He went through some injuries early with the big club too, but has been lights out since being healthy. Saying that hes a Fetter project is just asinine and insulting to him. Imo

.....and im a huge Fetter guy

Yeah I remember the bullpen being an issue.

Players gotta perform. Joakim Soria was dog shit for us and then went on to have a productive 2015 and rest of career basically.

2012 the bats completely went to sleep against the Giants

6 runs in 4 games. 159 avg

That was on the players more than anything the FO or coaching staff did

Tigers were 21-10 in Skubal starts this year. 66-65 in other games.

Last year they were also 21-10 in skubal starts. 65-66 in other games.

The bullpen took the loss in 10 of those 20 losses.

Saying AJ is the reason theyve returned to the postseason is ridiculous.

131-131 is the very definition of mid.

The challenge I'm having with this 2025 team is the 15 game blowing of the DIV still stings and a part of me feels like we don't deserve to be here while at the same time we were pretty damn good second half 24/first half 25 which is a full years worth so maybe we still do. Not too many years ago this team would have missed the post season before all the goofy expansion on # of wild card teams. Does an 87 win team that blew an historic DIV lead really deserve to be in the post season. I could get past it maybe IF that offense wasn't so hard to watch but they have been trash for going on three months now.

Part of me just wants them to lose so I don't feel the need to keep watching hoping it stops only to see more of the same nearly every game for weeks on end. It's just simply maddening and I want the unhappiness of this ineptitude to just stop. My Dad has refused to watch a single game every since they blew the DIV. He's still beyond pissed over it.

Tigers batters are anemic. There are far too many horrible at bats, not swinging at very hittable strikes and then wailing away at unhittable pitches. I have watched the same batters getting struck out on the very same pitch that they have all year long. Give Mckinstrey that slow back foot curve ball, he will swing and miss it every single time. Baez is trying to do better, but he will still swing at pitches that are so far outside they are in another time zone. I don't know what pitch Torkelson is waiting for, and I am not sure he doesn't either. I could go on and on, but bottom line is the at bats are unproductive far too many times.

Man Skubal just always struggles verses Seattle. I wonder what it is ?
He really needs a fast 1st inning.

Single (Sb)
Strikeout (nasty 3-2 change piece)
Strikeout
Popout 3rd.

Yes decent 1st !
The offense never gives him enough runs. Like usually 4 would be enough for a win but they don't get them for Skubal.

Yeah, at least they are coming home to comerica.

Sitting through these cake eaters in seattle getting to their feet after every 2 strike count, and crying in the stands because your team took the lead..

Enough. of that crap.. at least for 2 games

Philosophical question

If doing the same thing over and over again excepting different results is insanity, what would doing the same thing over and over again not excepting different results be called?

There is reason for frustration, but I don't understand calling yourself a fan and rooting for your team to lose. I again point to the preseason expectations people on this board had, then add losing Jobe and Olson for most of the season.

The hitting is very hard to watch at times, no question there, but again this is the big reason Harris is staying put with the guys he has coming up. We simply don't have a top 5 to 8 offense.

Maybe due to my Browns Fandom I have some kind of reasonable perspective to sports, but man is it hard to enjoy discussing the Tigers here and is why I barely have any posts on this site in 13 years.

Skubal was barely a top 50 prospect at his absolute highest point. Never higher than 5th in Detroits org.

Even after having a very strong 2019 in the minors.

So like I said, he was not a top prospect. A 50th ranked prospect is about lining out to be a 4th or 5th starter. Not one of the best guys in baseball.

Mize was expected to be that.

Skubal was then a borderline starter for 2 years, 35 homers allowed in 21, then got hurt in the midst of a decent 3rd year

Now go back to his 4th year and look at his first few starts, dude got rocked in half of them, then something clicked.

Skubal had stuff, but he required a 4 year time investment to figure it out.

Pretending this didn't happen is crazy talk lol.

Par for the course for this board though, be damned if we give the org any credit for anything.
