Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 4 Million Views!!!! Thankyou!

As Tigers' Justin Verlander, Tarik Skubal inch forward, decision points loom.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could start circling days on the calendar. Tarik Skubal should be back in the rotation by this date. Justin Verlander by this date. Jackson Jobe by this date.
But that’s not possible. There are too many variables involved to even guess with any authority. That’s the reason the Tigers, specifically president Scott Harris and manager AJ Hinch, are so averse to talking about timetables for injured players.

May 26 in Tigers and mlb history:

1911: In one of the few games in which both pitchers, Christy Mathewson and Grover Cleveland Alexander appear as relievers in a 5 - 3 victory for the New York Giants over the Philadelphia Phillies.

1925: In a Detroit 8 - 1 victory over the White Sox, Ty Cobb becomes the first major leaguer to collect 1,000 career extra-base hits. He will finish with 1,139.

1930: Joe Sewell of the Cleveland Indians strikes out twice facing lefthander Pat Caraway of the Chicago White Sox. It is the last time the Indians third baseman will fan this year, striking out only three times in 353 at-bats in the season.

1946: Having launched a lunar expedition out to somewhere well beyond Forbes Field's distant left-center bricks just four days ago on May 22nd, Josh Gibson dispatches an only slightly less ambitious mission into the right-center bleachers of Yankee Stadium, leading the Homestead Grays to an 11 - 8 triumph over New York Black Yankees and
into first place in the Negro National League. This makes it four wins in a row for the Grays, three of them over the cellar-dwelling Yankees. The Baltimore Afro-American estimates Gibson's blast at 440 feet, hailing it as "one of the longest ever hit at Yankee Stadium."

1946: Mel Ott retires from playing and decides only to manage the New York Giants. He has amassed a total of 2 hits in his 42 at-bats, and if his resulting .048 batting average does not amount to "hitting bottom", Ott, understandably, does not want to find out what does. Mel retires with 511 home runs and over 1800 runs and 1800 rbi to go with a career .304 BA. and over 5,000 total bases.

1950: The Philadelphia Athletics make some changes as a result of a front office coup. Connie Mack's son, Earle, who has been assistant manager, assumes the duties of chief scout. Earle, who had hoped to succeed his father as manager, is replaced by Jimmy Dykes. Mickey Cochrane is named general manager.

1956: Al Simmons dies in Milwaukee, at the age of 54. A former Philadelphia Athletics All-Star outfielder, Simmons hit .334 with 307 home runs and 1827 RBI in a 20-season major league career that included stints with six other teams besides the A's. Simmons gained induction into the Hall of Fame in 1953. Simmons held the American League record for most hits in a career by a right handed batter, that was later broken by Tigers great Al Kaline in 1974.

1958: The St. Louis Cardinals traded Barney Schultz to the Detroit Tigers for Ben Mateosky (minors).

1959: Harvey Haddix of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitches one of the most remarkable games in major league history. Haddix tosses 12 perfect innings, retiring the first 36 Milwaukee Braves batters he faces, before losing the perfect game in the 13th inning when Felix Mantilla reaches first base on an error. After a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to Hank Aaron, Haddix surrenders an apparent three-run home run to Joe Adcock. Aaron leaves the field, and Adcock passes him on the basepaths. Adcock's blast is called a double as Mantilla scores the winning run. Lew Burdette of the Braves goes all the way for a 12-hit, 1 - 0 shutout.

1959: Ed Walsh dies in Pompano Beach, at the age of 78. Walsh started a brief but remarkable pitching career in 1904 with the Chicago White Sox. From 1906 through 1912, he averaged 24 wins with 220 strikeouts and posted an ERA below 2.00 five times. Walsh was selected to the Hall of Fame in 1946.

1962: Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax strikes out 16 Philadelphia Phillies to lead his team to a 6 - 3 victory.

1962: Al Kaline of the Detroit Tigers fractures his collarbone while making a dramatic game-saving catch in right field. Kaline has helped preserve a 2 - 1 victory over the New York Yankees but he will miss two months with the injury.
At the time of this injury, Kaline was leading the American league in the Triple Crown. Kaline plays in 100 games and hits 29 Home Runs with 94 RBI.

1968: The rotten bastard Oakland A's are at it again; A's pitcher Jack Aker hits Tigers batter Jim Northrup in the head. That begins a brawl, that began from yesterday when Al Kaline's arm was broken by huge shithead Lew Krausse's pitch.

1969: Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves hits his 500th career double, becoming only the third major leaguer to reach 500 doubles and 500 home runs.

1984: Mariners hand the Tigers their second straight loss. Juan Berenguer pulled in the 1st after 4 runs. Rusty Kuntz & Kirk Gibson hit home runs. The Tigers score 3 in 9th but still lose big to fall to 35-7.

1987: Tigers win 8 - 7 over the rangers on a walk-off double by Kirk Gibson in the 11th inning to climb above the .500 mark for the first time this month. Gibson & Mike Heath homer for the Tigers. Dan Petry gets the win, Mike Henneman the save.

1995: The Tigers beat the White Sox 8-7. Trailing in the 9th, Kirk Gibson pinch-hit for Juan Samuel, despite Samuel having 3 hits and a home run. Kirk Gibson hit a walk-off 2-run homer off closer Roberto Hernandez.

1995: Ken Griffey of the Seattle Mariners fractures his wrist while making a spectacular catch against Kevin Bass of the Baltimore Orioles. Some observers call it the greatest catch they've ever seen. Griffey will undergo surgery on his injured wrist and miss the next three months of action.

2005: The Detroit Tigers released C.J. Nitkowski.

2005: Chico Carrasquel dies in Caracas, Venezuela, at the age of 77. Carrasquel, the first in a great line of Venezuelan shortstops that includes Luis Aparicio, Dave Concepci?n, Ozzie Guillen and Omar Vizquel, became the first Hispanic player to appear in an All-Star Game, in 1951, at Briggs Stadium.

2017: Ex-Tigers, Phillies, Hall of Famer Jim Bunning, who won over 100 games in each league, pitched a No-Hitter in each league , one a perfect game, and 1,000 plus Strikeouts in both leagues, and later served in Congress as both a Representative and Senator from Kentucky, passes away at the age of 85.

2019: The Detroit Tigers selected Austin Adams off waivers from the Minnesota Twins.

2020: The Players Association's initial reaction to the owners' latest financial proposal to re-start the season in one of "extreme disappointment". The owners are asking players to accept further salary cuts (in addition to being paid a pro-rated portion of their salaries, as already agreed upon) to compensate for anticipated lower revenues, with the players being paid the most taking the biggest salary cuts.

2021: Commissioner Rob Manfred issues his ruling following the completion of the investigation of allegations of improper behavior towards a number of women against former manager and coach Mickey Callaway. Callaway is found guilty of violating Major League Baseball policies and is declared ineligible for the remainder of this season and all of 2022, after which he may apply for reinstatement. For their part, the Angels fire him from his position of pitching coach, from which he has been suspended since the allegations surfaced in February, and the Indians, who were Callaway's employer when some of the offensive incidents took place, state that they will take steps to ensure a more respectful environment in which employees feel empowered to denounce workplace harassment in the future.

2023: Craig Kimbrel becomes the eighth pitcher to record 400 career saves in Philadelphia's 6 - 4 win over the Braves, barely two weeks after Kenley Jansen became the seventh.

2023: The Detroit Tigers purchased Lael Lockhart (minors) from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

2024: The Braves suffer a huge blow as defending MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. tears the ACL in his left knee when he turns around to abort a stolen base attempt against the Pirates. He will undergo an operation and be out for the remainder of the season.

Very interesting series against the Angels gets underway tonight. Angels are 7-23 over their last 30 games. If the Tigers do not at the very least win this series, I think a path back in the central is probably too much to ask. If they can sweep them and get back to under 10 games below .500 a glimmer of hope?

This home run put Dingler in a category of one of three Tigers primary catchers to hit 10 bombs before June. The other two, Mickey Tettleton in 1992 and Lance Parrish in 1986.

Prospect Max Anderson keeps doing the one thing the Tigers need now.
Detroit Tigers prospect Max Anderson keeps doing it.
The one thing the Tigers need so desperately.
He keeps hitting.
Anderson, the Tigers' No. 4 prospect by MLB Pipeline, is hitting .338 at Triple-A Toledo with an .834 OPS.
Just consider his weekend:
Anderson knocked in three runs and got on base twice on Saturday.
Then, on Sunday, he went 2-for-4 with a walk.

Tigers halt Javier Báez's rehab to get further medical evaluation.
Just as outfielder Kerry Carpenter and second baseman Gleyber Torres at last took significant steps toward starting rehab assignments, the news was more gloomy about shortstop/center fielder Javier Báez.
Out since April 28 with a right ankle sprain, the Tigers have suspended his rehab work and are sending him to see an ankle specialist.
“He needs further medical evaluation,” manager AJ Hinch said. “His ankle is not responding quickly and he’s not able to run full speed or do full baseball activities. We need to get to the bottom of this inflammation that he can’t quite seem to shake.”

Tigers hear boos after loss on grand slam: 'We are all frustrated'.
The Tigers have spent the better part of the last three years building a winning culture and nurturing a renewed love affair with the city and the fan base. So to hear the boos floating down from the remnants of a crowd of 21,954 at Comerica Park after another tough loss Tuesday night, well, it felt like salt in the wound.
"It's part of it," manager AJ Hinch said after the Tigers gave up a grand slam home run to Vaughn Grissom in a five-run eighth inning to lose, 10-6, to the Los Angeles Angels. "We come to the ballpark every day to win the game and we were in position again and we couldn't get to the finish line. I know everyone is frustrated inside the building and everyone is frustrated outside the building.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal impresses in live bullpen session.
Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal may not be able to take the mound in a live game just yet, but he looked sharp in a simulated session.
Skubal pitched nearly three innings of a live bullpen session at Comerica Park on Tuesday, May 26, facing Tigers batters Zack Short, Gage Workman and Jahmai Jones for his first test against live hitters since undergoing a procedure to remove a bone chip from his left elbow on May 6.

Tigers back to losing ways as bullpen implodes with grand slam in 8th.
Detroit Tigers starter Keider Montero didn’t have his best outing, but his offense did just enough to put him in line for the win.
And then the bullpen let the Los Angeles Angels blow it open in the eighth inning, leading to another Tigers loss.
On the strength of a five-run eighth inning, the Angels beat the Tigers, 10-6, on Tuesday, May 26, at Comerica Park in Detroit. Tigers reliever Will Vest gave up the big blow – a two-out, go-ahead grand slam to Angels first baseman Vaughn Grissom that turned a 6-5 Tigers lead to a 9-6 Angels lead.
