Despite the loss of Tony C, the Red Sox will sweep the 4-game series with the Angels. The sweep will still leave Minnesota in 1st place, with Boston, Detroit, and Chicago all within two games.

But his blast had something no other rooftop home run had: Thompson hit it off a pitcher who would go on to the Baseball Hall of Fame - Catfish Hunter of the New York Yankees.
1984: Detroit's Juan Berenguer goes 8 1/3 innings and strikes out 12 to give the Tigers a 4 - 3 victory over the Mariners. 2021: The Detroit Tigers purchased Dustin Garneau from the Colorado Rockies.
2023:
Shohei Ohtani hits a
grand slam and the
Angels turn a
triple play not seen in over 50 years, but the
Rays still come out ahead, 9 - 6. With runners on the corners and none out in the 9th, the triple killing that preserves a 6 - 6 tie goes from shortstop to second to first to catcher, with
Nolan Schanuel, playing in his big league debut at first base, throwing to C
Logan O'Hoppe to nail
Yandy Díaz at home to end the inning. The last such triple play had taken place in
1971 and the Halos had not recorded any since
1997. Alas, the Rays score three runs in the top of the 10th to win.

Tigers defeat the

Jace Jung in the bottom of the 9th, and walk it off on a single by
Parker Meadows in the 10th.
2024: The
Detroit Tigers released
Gio Urshela.
