link. this is not OT though, because it turns out that he was a fellow Wolverine.

the boat that sank on Lake Superior in 1978 was named for his father. also, his middle name was Bacon.

"Edmund Bacon Fitzgerald was born in Milwaukee on Feb. 5, 1926. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and in 1946 joined Cutler-Hammer, a Milwaukee-based electrical products manufacturer founded by his grandfather Frank R. Bacon. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and again during the Korean War."

Is he related to that John Q. Bacon or whatever who writes/tells those stories about Michigan football history?

And is John Q. Bacon related to John Q. Public?

I don'r believe so, but I have my team of researchers working on it. they'll confirm whether there is or is not any connection.

Anyways, almost three years to the date later, somebody finally cared enough to post/comment on this thread.
