Gary Bettman is against this playoff expansion idea but when Seattle gets added I like the idea of added a few teams to the playoffs. Like the idea of a winner take all playoff game like baseball has now at the end of the season. My guess is the owners will eventually force Gary?s hand and it it will Happen. Pretty funny that parity Bettman is against this.

16 is best imo. Still half the teams. I remember when they merged back in the late 70's 16 of 21 teams made it. 50% for any league is plenty. I hope they never expand it.

I am against expanding the number of teams.

The current format of playoffs needs to get reworked. Leads to constantly the same teams playing each other over and over again.

Bring it back to top 8 teams in points. Maybe 1st/2nd seed guaranteed to division winner but nothing more than that.

I'd argue a bigger need is to make each game worth 3 points. Would decrease the incentive to play for OT.

ROW - 3 PTS
OTW/SOW - 2 PTS
OTL/SOL - 1PTS

This is already the international standard. The current overtime loser point is needlessly inflating the points. But thats unlikely to happen because inflated point totals make GMs look better. It would not be in their best interest to mitigate that advantage.

I like that 3 point idea. But extra playoff teams probably will happen eventually because of the
Excitement of a do or die playoff game.

I think those type games are unfair to he 8th playoff team in each conference. Cheapens it in my opinion.

The 3 points for a win I absolutely hate. Not sure that would get teams to go for a win more at games end. Because it's the same, why take a risk when OT guarantees you points. Plus 3 on 3 is awesome. I love it.

I still love the 3 on 3. I think the three point for a win makes it so teams do not play for a tie which I like.

I like the original go by points as well.

Even though Bettman doesn’t want it my guess is the owners will get their way when expansion happens. Look at baseball. Purists hate the one game playoff but fans love it because it gives a few more cities a shot at glory. Owners love the extra tv and gate money.

I'm sure they have some sort of poll but not all fans like baseball's one game playoff. Plus I don't think a 1 game playoff work's in hockey. It would always be a disadvantage to the team in spot 8 (normally a playoff spot).

And this is what happens when Owners get extra TV and Gate money - the cap is raised. I'm one that likes the caps where they are.. NHL is one sport where it's not crazy and I like it that way. I don't want average hockey players making 10m and the stars making 25m.

It just wouldn?t be the 8 seed. It would be teams 8,9, and 10 is my guess if they add a few teams to the playoff pool. My guess is it would be 60/40 if you voted on the one game playoff format for baseball. Like I mentioned Purists hate it. My guess is average fan loves it. Gives his team a shot !

I'd consider a play-in game if a 9-10 finisher was within two points of #8, but not other wise. For a 9 to be 5-10 points out of the #8 spot and get a game to eliminate a superior team is not desireable IMO.

Advertisers? Nobody watches hockey anyway.

Somebody?s gotta be watching. Otherwise it wouldn?t be on TV.

It?s like daytime dramas - somebody?s gotta be watching.

Or telemarketing - somebody?s gotta be buying the shit, or they wouldn?t keep calling.

I agree bringing back top 8 points is important as look no further then the Blue Jackets 34 pts, and the Islanders 32 points In a poor metropolitan division. Heck we have 32 points lol.
I just dislike the wildcard format..
