Game #112: Detroit Tigers @ Philadelphia Phillies, Saturday August 2nd, 2025,

I hope Vest has something left in the tank for October.

A.J. Hinch on sending Brenan Hanifee (3.10 ERA, 46 games) to Triple-A Toledo: "It's a little bit of a tough luck scenario with him. We had to make a move. If you look at the configuration of our bullpen, there are very few guys that have options."

Finnegan got the job done. +1 for Harris.
I was listening to 97.1 the ticket on the internet yesterday - I live in Southern California - and some jackoff was slagging on Harris for “not doing everything he could have done to give the Tigers their best shot.”

I was thinking “who the **** are you? I mean, you’re entitled to your opinion, but opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one. Do you have a crystal ball or something?“

I think this guy’s opinion was that Harris should have traded bullpen prospects for a bat that I had never heard of. Whatever who knows. Most of the people I heard you saying the Tigers needed bullpen help.

I live here in La La Land and dodger fan. Also seems to leave that Dodgers.

It wasn’t very long ago that the Dodgers and Tigers had the best records in both leagues and still their fans think they need bullpen help. My guess is that every fan of every MLB team thinks their team needs a bullpen help if you rap backwards.

Harris should have done more at the deadline. Bullpen has been over used and isn't very good anymore and they need a right handed bat. They mostly think he didn’t do enough at the deadline.
(97’1 fm) radio host.
Most of the top prospects coming up all bat left. Lee bats right but like Anderson plays 2nd base. They have a ton of 2nd basemen in the system. Could have packaged one of them for better players.

You wait till Valenti (97.1) gets back from vacation.
He will go off on Harris.

With a big division lead shouldn’t you try to position your
Team for the best shot at winning the World Series ?

It is tough, he probably has to trade Skubal in the offseason and has prospects he has to decide fit into the big picture. He needs to figure out this rotation with Jobe injured for a bit still as well. I'm fine with them not going too big, but I did hope for more.

Me too. I didn’t want Suarez. He k’s to much. But there were Bullpen guys who were not rentals either. We really could have made the pen better.

Erie Seawolves (61-39) (16-15) Second Half (Won 1st Half)
Beat Akron 6-5 at Akron. Game went to extra inning because the Seawolves pen caved in up 5-2 in bottom of the 9th. Peña pitched a gem and Kohlhepp blew the game. Funny the guy who blew it ended up getting the win. Kevin had 1 hit a three run Homer . Clark had a hit and is batting .323. Kevin is up to .293.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers’ owner Chris Ilitch and PoBO Scott Harris have stated that they want to develop a sustainable organization that has a constant flow of young talent coming up.
Contrast that with former GM Dave Dombrowski who routinely depleted the farm system in order to add higher-profile players.
Is it possible for the Tigers to develop an entirely home-grown roster?
Other than the reigning Cy Young Award winner, the Tigers have a roster consisting of mostly solid but not overly remarkable players. There are no players classified as being elite. In a recent survey, baseball fans outside of Michigan are hard-pressed to name a Detroit Tiger player not named Skubal.
We know the team is focused on making the playoffs. But is this roster-building strategy capable of taking a team all the way to the end of October?
Would they have enough talent to get it done?
Or do they need something more? Do they need to add an elite player or two to the mix either via free agency or a trade in order to increase their chances of getting those rings?
If the latter, it would come as a cost. Either losing developmental talent that might disrupt that pipeline flow or putting a significant amount of payroll into 1 or 2 players while risking the ability to extend promising players in Detroit.
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

Ready?
At some point, do the Tigers need to add an elite-level player from outside the organization to the roster in order to get to the World Series?

Do the Tigers need to add an elite-level player to the roster in order to get to the World Series?

1. Yes.

2. Not necessarily. They could do it with an overall solid roster.
