Game #116: Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers, Wednesday August 6th, 2025 1:10 Pm

I hate Jones and Ibanez. Worthless at bats by both.
Jones does not hit lefty’s that great at all.

Depressing loss.
Not Sure how Greene gets out of this slump. He is so lost.
Bad series after Playing so good against the Phillies.

Well this really sucks. The f'n twins are having a garage sale dumping players for salary relief, and they take the series from the Tigers.

Greene is dropped in the batting order and still strikes out 3 times. He is on pace to reach 200 strikeouts. That is terrible.

Twins 9 - Tigers 4: Detroit Tigers and the no good, very bad game.
We may have been premature in our “we’re back” enthusiasm.
BYBTB

Tigers, Jack Flaherty roughed up by trade-depleted Twins: 'We've got a lot of work to do'.
Detnews

Detroit Tigers pitchers can't stop Twins in 9-4 loss; AL Central lead down to 6 games.
Freep

Tigers’ cushion in AL Central continues to erode with another loss to Twins.

Tigers traded away some assets last year and made a run to the playoffs. Maybe they should have traded away a few guys this year as well ;)

Tigers drop a series to the bad Twins. Detroit is 30-30 in their last 60. Indians/Guardians just 6 games back now for 1st place. It took Cleveland just 24 games to make up 9.5 games on Detroit.
And, the Tigers decided to punt away a chance at the deadline to get better.
Embarrassing.

It’s maddening that Sweeney and Malloy hit in the minors but do Jack crap when they are in Detroit.
They should try Malloy as the leadoff hitter verses lefty’s at least.
So tired of these shits smacking the ball at Toledo and doing Jack shit in Detroit., Sweeney is smoking the ball .

Tigers Minor League update, August 6th, 2025.
Toledo Mudhens (59-51) (20-15) second half.
They swept a doubleheader at (48-62) Louisville and smoked the ball.
Sweeney is on fire for a few games. Lots of hits.

Sommers has 57 K’s in 51 innings out of the pen. In game #2
Lange and Hanifee clean innings in game #1..

AL. Central update. Should we make guesses on the date the Tigers
Choke away this division lead ? Hopefully they wake up Friday.
24 games ago Cleveland was 15.5 back.

Tigers………..Lose …….(66-50)
Guardians..win……….(59-55) 6 back
Royals……….win………..(57-58) 8.5 back
Twins………..win………..(54-60) 11 back
W. Sox………playing..(42-71) 22.5 back

Beside a few hitters just about every player is slumping a lot since the all star break. It’s embarrassing losing 2 out of 3 to the twins.
Not sure how they break out of it.

Jake Rogers has played in 33 games since he came off of injury.
Tigers are 12-21 in those games.

I’d rather see either Kid play over Jake.
Liranzo or Briceno. (I know probably not ready) but Liranzo is a switch
Hitter.

My guess is that Harris wants as much service time as he can scratch out of his young players. Hopefully we don’t have to wait years to see
Clark, McGonigle, Briceno, Lee, Anderson, Cruz, and some others.

Who gets called up in September? Probably Malloy and Sweeney.
Hell put as many guys as possible on the dl and call up the kids.
I want to see some youth and speed and energy again.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sweeney back up here. It gives Javy a chance to play CF with Meadows out.

Get sweeney back up then if he’s decided he will start hitting again.

Other observations

Tigers don’t seem to play well from behind if they get down early, offense all starts pressing, not staying inside the ball and not making pitchers throw strikes. Walks are down they aren’t getting it done well when under perceived pressure, not patient and trying to do too much. Pitchers are throwing Greene top of the zone FB’s with a high degree of success he needs to adjust the approach. Stop swinging at every damn one of them might be a good start.

Are they playing to the level of the competition right now perhaps as well? They just don’t seem nearly has locked in at the plate vs shithooks hacking at too much garbage. Lock it in all day everyday guys! Try some methylene blue before game time. Improves focus

One more thing, said it last week and will say it again, the next time things aren’t going well early, first chance they get on a bad break from an ump I want to see someone get mad and AJ get himself on jomboy! That can sometimes light a fire. Leyland always knew that! That’s part of the job AJ!

Scuffling Tigers know rivals in rearview 'are closer than they appear'.

As AL Central lead shrinks, A.J. Hinch says Detroit Tigers 'better worry about ourselves'.

The trade deadline for “Buyers” isn’t JUST about adding the right pieces for your team to build the best roster for the postseason. It’s about showing the team/fans you’re all in and believe in the roster. I don’t think the Tigers did that.
2nd half vibes are Not good.

International Signings: Why Detroit needs to get this right.
TMLR

Riley Greene 21/120 49 SO 1/21.

Kevin McGonigle 1.031 OPS 38 XBH 36BB 31 SO 183 wRC+ 338/428/584

I’m watching the Erie game tonight and we have stupid pitchers at Erie also. The team was down 6-1 to a really bad Richmond team.
They come all the way back to tie the game 6-6. In the top of the 8th Richmond gets a lead off double. The pitcher gets the next two outs on a ground out to Shortstop and a strikeout.

Next guy was batting .212 but had had two hits tonight. The pitcher gets ahead like all tiger pitchers do 1-2. Does he waste a pitch ? Does he throw high heat (tigers hitters seem to chase that pitch)Nope he hangs a pitch right over the plate. Double trial again 7-6. Then he loaded the bases before getting the last out. I just don’t understand I guess.. that hit never should happen on that count. Hopefully they come back.
That Pitcher is off the hook. Strikeout, triple, single ties game 7-7.
Clark coming up. Max and Kevin hitless tonight. After Balk .
Max grounds out to Ss. Kevin worked a check swing walk)
Wild pitch to score the go ahead run on the wild pitch.

Erie leaves same pitcher in and he allows a 4 pitch walk followed by a sac bunt. (Nice play by Max at third) 5-3 for the 2nd out. Anderson again. Strikeout for the win breaking the three game losing streak.
Erie hit 4 homers. Briceno, Anderson, Holton, Meyers.
Anderson had a big night.

So when you tweet for Max Clark to be promoted, understand that tonight, he just took two 91 MPH FB on the edge away then waved at the 3rd one. All from a LH reliever. He is in AA Erie. Even with the difference in AAA and the Tigers, there is a learning curve. Look at Jung and Sweeney, and countless others. They will get there and thrive soon with the Tigers.
