Game #117: Los Angeles Angels @ Detroit Tigers, Friday August 8th, 2025 7:10 Pm

Did you notice "file", not "fly"?
I didn’t.

I’ll have to go back and investigate.
AL. Central update.

Tigers………..won..….(67-50) -
Guardians..won……(60-55) 6 back.
Royals……….Lost……..(57-59) 9.5 back.
Twins…………won…….(55-60) 11 back.
White Sox.Lost……..(42-74) 24.5 back.
Bob don’t you think the Angels should just forfeit the next two games?

Since they don’t really have anything going for them anyway.

Take a couple days to get to know Detroit.

Or maybe even go into Windsor.

It’s a cool little foreign city in a foreign country.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

One month ago, the Detroit Tigers had a 15.5 game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. Through Thursday’s game, that lead has now shrunk to 6 games.
Weirdly enough, this has happened while Cleveland lost 2 of their top pitchers, Luis Ortiz and closer Emmanuel Clase to a gambling investigation. The earliest they could return is September, if at all.
Ironically, the Guardians have a -26 run differential, ranking #20 in MLB. The Tigers, on the other hand, have a +80 run differential that is 6th best.
Neither of these situations supports Cleveland’s ability in closing that gap.
Is this situation due to the Tigers’ dive in performance or is this simply a temporary phase?
Is the Guardians’ over-performance due to the team being newly motivated by the loss of their 2 pitchers?
Why do you think Cleveland has been gaining ground?

Why do you think Cleveland has been gaining ground?

1. Their roster and talent are coming together.

2. The loss of 2 top pitchers has significantly increased their motivation.

3. The Tigers roster, esp. their bullpen, has become less competitive.

4. It's simply an anomaly and will self-correct eventually.

It is easily #3. They were playing over their heads for the first 1/2. I wouldn't be surprised if they play around .500 ball for the rest of the year. That would put them at 90 wins. The Indians would have to go 30-17 to catch them, which is .640 ball.

I really hope we can start winning some series again.
