I don’t think we have much worry about them catching us; we just need to be preparing everything to be firing on all cylinders at playoff time. If we were to only manage to play .500 ball for the rest of the season, they would need to go 28-8 to pass us.Btw KC is winning their 5th in a row tonight. They are starting to hit and have great pitching.

I prefer the home grown talent because I enjoy watching them progress through the system. But, let's not forget that Harris and Co tried very hard to get one of the biggest free agents out there last year, but they didn't land him. They also didn't have a back up plan.WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.![]()

Totally Tigers
Yesterday’s blog addressed how dramatically the Detroit Tigers have changed their approach to building their roster and winning games.
The previous teams going back to that 2006-2016 decade were characterized by high-profile free agents and most of their roster acquired from other teams. Overall, it was a “stars and scrubs” roster generally with a few players receiving most of the credit for the majority of the highlight reels.
During those years, the Tigers carried one of MLB’s highest payrolls.
That philosophy had great starting pitching and hitters known for mashing HRs. Those were the 2 primary elements in their formula for winning.
However, positional players were not solid defensively and very slow on the basepaths.
The newer version of the Tigers is an overall solid roster which is primarily home-grown. One or 2 players who are well-known including Tarik Skubal and Riley Greene. Any free agents are here for only a year or 2. Since the new Front Office took over 2.5 years ago, the team has not acquired any big-name free agents.
As for payroll, the Tigers currently sit at an average amount compared with the other 29 teams.
This team currently has 1 ace in their rotation but their entire roster is full of players who are solid defensively and the best in MLB for taking extra bases. They hit fewer HRs but have the ability to win games in variety of ways. Almost every player plays a pivotal role in helping win games with a new hero almost every night.
Which of these teams do you find is the most fun to watch?
Which of these teams do you find has been the most fun to watch?
1. The free agent versions from 2006-2016.
2. The new version of primarily home-grown talent.
