Why Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal looks ready for final month as postseason approaches.

Splitter-heavy Kyle Finnegan becomes multi-inning reliever for Tigers after trade.
"It was more of just my role with the Nationals. I transitioned into the pure closer role. But I've always felt comfortable doing it and felt like I could manage it."

This is Kyle Finnegan's pitch usage since joining the Tigers at the July 31 trade deadline.
With the Nationals (4.38 ERA/39 innings): Fastball: 65.7% Splitter: 29.6% Slider: 4.7%
With the Tigers (0.00 ERA/13.1 innings): Fastball: 42.8% Splitter: 51.4% Slider: 5.8%

Feels like Owen Hall and/or Ethan Schiefelbein could pop in '26.
Also like Franny Montilla, Lucas Elissalt, Cris Rodriguez, Kelvis Salcedo,
Jake Miller, Andrew Sears.
And some '25 draftees: Jordan Yost, Michael Oliveto, Malachi Witherspoon,
Ben Jacobs, River Hamilton, Ryan Hall, Caleb Leys.

Tyler Holton has now allowed 11 HR, 5th worst in MLB. 1.70 HR/9 9th worst in MLB.
FB command is life, relievers are just tough to predict year to year.

Here's a former significant problem the Detroit Tigers had for a number of years before Scott Harris, A. J. Hinch and the coaches got to work.

Team OPS with RISP. Tigers still seem to be lower than the stats shown in the link.

Kevin McGonigle works the count full and then smacks a 3-run single up the middle. Max Clark scores all the way from 1st.
Max Clark gets from 2nd to home in 6.4 seconds.

Jake Miller looked healthy and good in his first rehab outing. Ran into a little hard luck, but 30 of his 40 pitches were strikes, and he picked up 11 whiffs (4 FB, 5 SL, 2 CH).

Dingler has only allowerd 41 SB, the fewest in MLB. He has also thrown out 23 runners 5th in MLB.
Realmuto is first at 26, he's also allowed 59 steals.
Dingler is the best thrower in baseball..by a decent amount right now.

Predicting 2 new players for Detroit Tigers when rosters expand in September.

Tiger batters out in 8 pitches in the first.

Keith k’s on 3 pitches.
Next two ground out.
GT 2 pitches
KC 3 pitchers.

Come on ump. wtf. Skubal already squeezed on a strike on his 2 pitch.

Sigh .
Skubal gives up a cheap 1-2 count hit to a lefty.::

Skubal sadly piling up the pitches. He is not getting close strikes at all.
He looks off. Now a two out walk followed by a single and he gets #9 hitter to line out to carpenter.

Wacha only 22 pitches
Skubals already at 36 pitches .

Only 2 innings :(

KC pitcher needs only 10 pitches for the 3rd.
Skubal needs a fast 3rd inning.

Bottom 3rd
Lead off KC double
Witt Jr deep fly moves runner to 3rd.
Vinny P. K’s,
Perez shattered bat 6-3.

Top 4th 0-0

Pitch count
Ts at 44
Mw at 32

Torres hanging with Baez to much chases a pitch a foot off the plate.
Carpenter weak fly out to left.
Greene weak fly out to center

Tiger hitters just going through the motions. Putting no pressure at all on KC pitcher.

I wonder if any of the hitting coaches have any insight into what needs to change, or if we are going to keep pretending that this is a viable offense going forward.

The Tigers cannot seem to get runs when Skubal is on the mound. They have not gotten a win for Skubal since 8/2.

This tigers offense is just woefully inadequate too frequently and for the love of god can we get Kieth out of the lead off spot he’s not effective there at all!

I think they would tell you the hitting is fine. It’s not!

Skubal falls behind 1st batter in the 4th 3-0. Then dails it in.
