DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers have gotten off to a very slow start this year. It reminds us of the 2023 and 2024 years. And some are pointing to the collapse late last season as a reminder.
They’ve just improved their record to 6 wins and 9 losses. They were swept in 4 games by the Twins and now just won their last 2 at home. But they are still only .5 game out of last place in the AL Central.
It’s fair to say that this roster looks and performs nothing like they did last year. And many are asking why.
Almost every positional player, save Kevin McGonigle, Colt Keith and Dillon Dingler, are under-performing. Javier Baez has just come on strong recently. But in 1 recent game, they went 0-for-11 with RISP.
In team rankings, they are below average in hitting, pitching and defense. All 3 areas are in the lower half of all MLB teams.
So who is primarily to blame for this poor start to the season?
Is it the players? Are they not motivated enough? Not talented enough.
Is it the manager and coaches? Are they unable to connect with or coach the players?
Or is it the Front Office? Did they not make enough changes to the roster over the winter to improve play?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

the answer is always the players. I give credit to the players when they play/perform well, and blame when they don't. That said, some of these players shouldn't really be on the team. Vierling and Jones are not MLB level talent. Both are AAAA players at best. Same with Rogers, but he will be gone as soon as one of the young catchers is ready to come up and be Dingler's backup.
