Game #156: Atlanta Braves @ Detroit Tigers, Sunday September 21st, 2025 , 1:10 pm

I had MLB network on back in June, and the Tigers were in the middle of their hot streak, and starting a series with the Rays. Two of the guys (probably Amsinger and Plesac, though I don't remember clearly) were raving about how well the Tigers were doing, but said that the Rays were the type of team that they wouldn't want to play in a playoff game; fast on the bases, able to produce runs, etc. They asked Harold Reynold, and he agreed with them about the Rays. About the Tigers? He said "I don't think they will do well; they have to always rely on the home run, and you have to manufacture runs in the playoffs". Didn't we do a great job of manufacturing runs the last month?
I remember watching the same show. He is right . We don’t grind out at bats and we don’t put the ball into play with runners on base. We never seem to move the runners over. Look Harris will never take the blame but someone has to get fired. Will it be some hitting coaches or some pitching coaches ?

I don't think Ibanez is worthless, but when it comes to Sweeney, Jung, and Baez, you are not going to get a quality at bat. They are extremely weak offensively. I totally agree with a former post that too many Tiger hitters do not recognize pitch patterns or pitch recognition. AJ said they just aren't getting those "key" hits like they did earlier in the year. Obviously. Greene's strike outs are ridiculous, and those strike outs on pitches out of the zone on 3-2 pitches are rally killers

I seriously think some of our pitchers starter and bullpen guys are tipping their pitches in certain counts. Maybe we have tendencies that other teams have picked up on. Idk

I was hoping that just one or two key acquisitions would have been made end of July, but it didn't happen. If it had, that may have been just a little spark plug that would have not allowed this "second" terrible down slide that is plaguing them right now.

I agree with Baez and Sweeney. I think that Jung has issues with mlb fastballs. Hr just had about a full minor league in which he had 17 homers and 27 doubles. Over last month in a half he got his average up from .200 ish to 250 ish.

Malloy finished batting .320 ish. He just cant field. Recent box scores have him leading off.

I think Jung and Malloy would give a better at bat than the other two right now Sweeney and Baez. I agree the tigers cannot hit off speed pitches at all. Or high heat. Get 2 strikes and do either and we K.

AJ said the offense had plenty of opportunities yesterday but just can’t seem to stay in the zone when it matters most.

Yes we all agree

Our all stars since the all star break
Greene .212
McKinstry .220
Beaz .204

Hey Tigers! Try to relax again the pressure is off now as nobody expects you to win again now.

What’s most frustrating is why they can’t stop repeating the same mistake for weeks on end. I think the only one I have any confidence at all in to stay in the zone consistently is Parker Meadows, the moment doesn’t seem to big for him right now. Nearly everyone else, not consistent enough although tork is not a problem overall he still occasionally can’t lay off the breakers out of the zone.

Perez and Ibanez have been the most horrendous. Of course Beaz is Beaz we expect nothing less from him.
