We’re continuing the discussion about why and how the Detroit Tigers ended up crashing and burning this year. It’s not a happy one nevertheless it’s a discussion that must be had. If anything else, to better understand what happened.
Since the All-Star break, the Tigers declined significantly in starting pitching, relief pitching and offense. The pattern started in early July which is most likely the reason why the Tigers did not make a big splash at the trade deadline.
And it’s become apparent from the stats that the addition of an upper level player or two was not going to make much of a difference. This team needed help in all aspects of the game save defense.
I’ve put together 5 of the most important stats that tells the tale of the rise during the first half of the season, and then the decline. The difference in stats is quite noticeable.
