Game #161: Detroit Tigers @ Boston Red Sox, Saturday September 27th, 2025 4:10 Pm

If they win tomorrow I think they own the tiebreaker with Boston and move up 1 spot in the wild card standings if Cleveland wins the series.

Cleveland just won on a walk off hbp; Rangers closer got Ramirez for the second out, then a meltdown: walk, single, intentional bb, hbp.

Looked on purpose to me on a 0-1 count to a .221 hitter.
Come on not buying it. High up on the shoulder. Really :/
Left on left. I do not think that guy hot a batter all season.

The Astros have been eliminated, so we know the six teams in the AL field.
If the Tigers lose on Sunday, they are headed to Cleveland.
If they win on Sunday, they are headed to Detroit, New York or Toronto.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

There is no need to remind Tiger fans how the bottom dropped out the team’s performance starting in July and increased in speed. Until this month, they were in 1st place with a double-digit lead for most of the year.
Thankfully, now the Tigers are tied for the division and will go for the title on Sunday. Even better is their Saturday win which punched their ticket for October.
Yet, we’re all holding our collective breath over the team’s performance, especially in September. They have only won 6 games. Can most of the roster step it up starting on Tuesday? There are still concerns that need to be overcome.

Everyone except Dillon Dingler, Jahmai Jones, Wenceel Perez and Tarik Skubal has regressed in the 2nd half. What could be the possible reasons?
Which factor listed below in the poll do you believe was the largest contributing factor to the team’s overall decline in the 2nd half?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
Ready?

Which factor do you believe was the largest contributing factor to the team's overall decline?

1. Not enough consistent talent to carry them through a long season.

2. They became complacent after leading MLB for most of the year.

3. Too many significant injuries that ended up stressing the rest of the roster.

4. A. J. Hinch's management style.

I don't think the tinkering helped, but the injuries to the SP compounded by dreadful trade deadline pickups were a big factor.

If Olson stays healthy we are division Champs.

Detroit went 6 and 16 in the combined starts of Enns, Gibson Long, Morton, Paddack.

The latter was actually 3 and 3 remarkably enough ( the team anyway)

Throw in the inexplicable additions of some truly shitty relief pitching, and then we struck gold with Finnegan, he gets hurt and hasn't been same coming back.

I get Harris holding talent for future seasons, but this was a year to spend a little. Throwing Trey Sweeney out there for 320 at bats was bonkers. And his final stats don't even tell the full story because he basically got like 9 hits in the last 3 and a half months of baseball

In Mize and Skubal starts they are 39 and 20, and that is with Skubal losing his last 3. 9 and 1 in Jobes starts.

The Tigers were hitting a little above their weight in the first half and a little below in the 2nd. They are an average hitting team.

A healthy rotation and they are a top 5 team. When they run the shit show out there they have been, they are a middling team.

Need a lot of luck and timely hitting in the playoffs. Anything can happen, and maybe Melton can show out and replace Olson/Jobe

I get sitting skubal, but why all the position players? Having home field advantage isnt a bad thing
