Game 162 Tigers vs. brewers September 30, 2018 3:00 start

Well anyways… It ain’t that great that the Detroit Tigers final game of the year will result in a national league 163rd play in the game… But it is what it is.

Ron I’m like you - in major-league baseball I’m going to be a Detroit Tigers fan until I draw my dying breath.

That said, the Detroit Tigers possibly Might not be on my mind as I draw my dying breath.

I hated the AL brewers b/c the Tigers traded one of my favorite players in Ben Oglivie for SP Jim Slaton, who became a FA and resigned with the brewers the very next season.

I loved Oglivie. Favorite of mine too.

Milwaukee has yet to hoist a WS championship banner...ala the TX Rangers, San Diego, and Seattle....oh yeah...almost forgot Tampa Bay, who has the toughest division to win in season after season.

64-98...same as last season, but w/o a fire sale...so improvement?

Sorry Gardy, but ya can't be competitive with an entire IF, including catcher, batting ~ the Mendoza line for a season.

We need to get a real hitting coach. Someone that played pro ball and who could hit. Not Lloyd.

Tigers have a surplus of OFers, Craig, dunno if Mahtook will be back next spring, or maybe a bit less likely Jones.

Irony is defined when a 39 year old retires, but hit better than 75% of his teammates.

Jones will be 27 early next season so I could see him gone. 140k's and can't get on base. Starting OF should be Nick, Stewart, & ? Maybe give Reyes a shot, or FA. Please release Mahtook.

I see that the white sux tanked their way to 100 losses....congrats goes to the AL Central, for being by far the shittiest this season and for being one of the most pathetic before this one. Wonder if it set a record for the least wins and the most losses combined in a season?

We finished with 98 losses...and still finished ahead of 2 teams. 2nd place was 6 games under .500. Just an awful overall season from the AL Central. With that said it would be pretty funny if the Indians won the World Series this year.

Would still be pretty funny if the Indians were to win the AL Pennant over 3 100 and + win teams, not to mention having less wins than both WC teams. Even the third place teams in the AL East and West were within 1-2 games of the Central winner...lol.

I imagine it has to.

2018 = Offense Runs - 630, Pitching - 796 (-166)

2017 = Offense Runs - 735, Pitching - 894 (-159)

Overall, you might not see a difference. I am concerned the offense took such a big drop. It is harder to turn an offense around then the pitching without signing Free Agents.

The top 5 AL teams are also the top 5 in offensive runs (797 runs by HOU is #5). It is a little more cloudy in NL, but still all playoff teams are above average. Only MIL (751 runs) is not in the top 5.

As a general rule, all playoff teams have a positive run differential and all bottom dwellers have an extreme negative run differential. Any lapse of offensive improvement and regression for pitching will not bode well in 2019.

Last season we had Miggy most of the year. We also had JD, Kinsler, Upton. That was the reason our offense dropped.

Don't see the Tigers going after any FAs who are any better than bargain-basement types who they hope could be flipped for prospects if they have good seasons. So their need would be for SPs, SU or closer if Greene is traded or cut, (depending upon if they plan to go with Jimenez as closer next season) and perhaps a first baseman, since Miggy will likely be FT DH. They might even resign Iggy, if no other teams want to overpay and/or give him a multiple year contract @ short.

The only players on their roster who could return any value in trades, is Castellanos and Boyd, but removing an All Star type from their lineup next season, isn't going to put more season-ticket paying butts in CoPa's seats.

hopefully, they wait until there are bargains...unlike last year when they signed those types of players too early.

I hope they fill out their roster with a bunch of those types of players.

The Tigers will have plenty of options for their DH. Miggy, Nick (if he's not traded) and Stewart.

This team will suck again next year.
