Game #23: Detroit Tigers @ Boston Red Sox, Monday April 20th, 11:00 Am

Tigers insider speaks hard truths Scott Harris needs to hear about Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson.
They are what they are.
MCBTB
I think most fans came to this conclusion last year. Both Tork & Greene are decent players, but neither are ever going to be a star.

I told you yesterday in the game thread, the pitchers on Sunday would be hurting if they pitched today, 12 to 15 hours later.
The Red Sox also used the same relievers as yesterday, and one of them was pretty bad, but we just didn’t have enough hitting prowess to open up on that. The Red Sox did. Edit: I didn't think about who the Tigers used yesterday. None of yesterday's Tiger relievers pitched in today's game. Boston was forced into using yesterday's relievers; we just can't do situational hitting. In the end though, this game was on Flaherty and two fresh relievers that just couldn't get it done.

As a musician, that Star Spangled Banner was painful. So badly out of tune.......

My mistake, I thought holton pitched yesterday.

Since earned runs became an official statistic in 1913, only two Tigers pitchers have had a sub-1.00 ERA over their first 26 regular season games with the franchise.
Kyle Finnegan (2025-26): 0.96 ERA
José Valverde (2010): 0.36 ERA

Since last year's trade deadline, Finnegan's 0.96 ERA is the fifth-lowest of any MLB reliever (min. 25 games), trailing only Raisel Iglesias (0.28), Mason Miller (0.52), Tyler Kinley (0.84), and Garrett Whitlock (0.91).

Before today's game: Kevin McGonigle leads all MLB rookies with a .312 AVG, .411 OBP, 6 doubles, and 2 triples. He's reached base safely in 17-consecutive starts, which is tied for the longest active streak in baseball.

Kevin McGonigle is now 11-for-28 batting leadoff. (.393).Seems like the most natural fit.

"If Dillon Dingler challenges, you don't even have to look at the video. "Tigers catchers have won 86.7% of their challenges this year, which continues to lead all MLB teams!

Most Barrels Per Plate Appearance (2026 So Far):
Dillon Dingler, 16.4%
Aaron Judge, 15.8%
Shohei Ohtani, 15.5%

In 2024 Jack Flaherty walked 19 batters in 106.2 innings with the Tigers.
In 2026 Jack Flaherty has walked 20 batters in 23.1 innings with the Tigers.

This has been well documented but in his career,
Jack’s 4-seam when <= 92 MPH:.298 BA, .556 SLG, 14.3% Whiff%
Jack’s 4-seam when >= 92 MPH:.231 BA, .381 SLG, 21.3% Whiff%
Right now in this game it’s averaging 91.4 MPH.

THE EVOLUTION OF A HIGH-PROFILE PLAYER.
Totally Tigers

Guys, I’m pressed into watching grandkids this afternoon and I will not have any access to a computer. Can someone please post today’s game thread thank you.

Jack his own worst enemy.
4 walks and his error
I agree. Flaherety and his mental instability is a total liability. He is a total head case which is why he is his own worst enemy. The Tigers have got to have someone in the minors to replace him. What a foolish waste of money. Personally I like the guy, but he is just too unreliable to keep sending him out there to start a game. We've always got Jake Rogers!
