WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers
The Tigers got off to a slow start this season and naturally, discussions started to center on the current level of talent.
Dillon Dingler, Colt Keith and Kevin McGonigle are playing well and meeting their expectations. But there are others who continue to generate concern over their inconsistent performances.
Other than the 3 mentioned above, Gleyber Torres and Javy Baez will be gone in 1-2 years. That leaves Spencer Torkelson as the last member of the infield.
In the outfield, there is Riley Greene, Parker Meadows (long-term IL), Kerry Carpenter, Wenceel Perez and Matt Vierling.
The rotation is expected to lose Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty after this year. Casey Mize may become a free agent and Justin Verlander is on a 1-year contract. Framber Valdez’s contract goes through 2027 and possibly as long as 2029.
Keider Montero is under team control as are Reese Olson and Jackson Jobe who are both on the long-term IL.
The bullpen, known to be highly volatile in its relievers, is hard to predict and for purposes of this blog, will not be considered. As well, utility players will also not be included in our discussions.
In all, there are 13 candidates for you to consider:
Infield – Dingler, Torkelson, Keith, McGonigle
Outfield – Greene, Meadows, Carpenter, Perez, Vierling
Rotation – Jobe, Montero, Olson, Valdez
Out of all these players, how many of them will become/stay as the core of this team in 2 years (2028)?
How many of the Tigers' core players will remain on the roster in 2028?
1. 3
2. 4-5
3. 6-8
4. 9-10
5. 11+
