Yikes, looking at the matchups. The Reds are 6-15 against Montero, with two home runs. Obviously, a small sample size.

Tigers bullpen issues are nothing new, and guess what they'll be discussing at July's trade deadline?
You can go back to 2013, or long before, and see why relief pitching so often has been a Tigers ill. Also: What to do with Jack Flaherty, Torkelson's hot streak, and a possible 2027 Draft Day gusher.
Tigers Intelligence Report w/Lynn Henning

Kevin McGonigle with three hits last night. He's hitting .337 with a .972 OPS.

Kevin McGonigle's MLB rankings entering play Sunday:
1st -- Position-player WAR (2.0)
2nd -- Offensive WAR (1.7)
4th -- Doubles (11)
6th -- Average (.333)
6th -- Hits (34)
7th -- On-base (.424)
9th -- OPS (.963)
9th -- Runs (21)

Tigers with a HR as the first batter of the game age 21 or younger:
Dick McAuliffe (1)
Riley Greene (1)
Kevin McGonigle (1)

Tyler Holton concerning velocity down over 1 MPH both on his FB and cutter and cutter whiff% down from 25% to 13%.

2024 Tigers Jack Flaherty 106.2 IP 19BB
2026 25.1 IP 23 BB

Interesting the announcers mentioned that Jack’s front foot is hitting before his arm is up.

Perez now 3/36 weird. has a 9.7% barrel rate and a .215 xBA.

The Tigers have placed RHP Connor Seabold on the 15-day injured list with left ankle inflammation. RHP Brenan Hanifee has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

Spencer Torkelson bats fifth today with a chance to tie the Tigers record for consecutive games with a home run (5), joining Rudy York, Hank Greenberg,
Vic Wertz, Willie Horton and Marcus Thames.

Overall This team gets plenty of base runners but does not score enough runs, golden opportunity with the bases loaded and one out pissed away on an auto out backup catcher. Uggg

So which one of the bum pen is gonna blow this one? Its usually several lol
I just returned from having a cigar, saw the score and thought the same thing. lol.

Win or lose this game, I am expecting a move or two flipping a player or two with a player or two from the minors.

My nephew came in to town from Denver. Had to go see him for a bit. So glad tigers are doing good.

Marcus Thames was the last tiger to hit 5 homers in a row in five games . 2008.

Go tigers

Paging bullpen support for the Detroit Tigers.
With the bullpen scuffling and a possible injury brewing, here are the Tigers options for Triple-A relief help.

Didn’t get a chance to catch much of the game, but at least it was a good one for the Tigers

Who else? Tork homers in 5th straight game to tie Tigers record.

Tigers were 1 out away from taking 2 of 3 and winning this series. Sure doesnt feel that way. Reds are really freaking good though. I think this 9 game stretch of Mil/Cin/Atl might be the most difficult 9 game stretches all year. winning 4 of those games would be a success in my book. 5 would be outstanding.

Minor League
Toledo Mudhens (14-13) They won 5th in a row . Another pitchers duel over (12-14) Toledo won 5 of the 6 games in the series with Omaha .
This was a 2-1 game and Gage Workman (.333) and Max Clark drove in the two runs and Max scored the winning run off of workman’s double in the 8th. Clark had his 8th stolen base
Toledo. Had only 3 hits. The four Pitchers were fabulous with 12k’s and 2 BB. Mattison picked up his third win. Sommers got his first save. Sammoms started went 4.1 with (6/1) k/bb.

Maybe when the Tigers actually start playing THE TEAMS IN ITS OWN FREAKING LEAGUE, we'll get an accurate measure of their ability to contend for the post season.

The tigers are 10-8 inter-League play.

We need to fix the road record
The outlier is being swept by Minnesota earlier this year.

Tigers are
10-2 at home
5-12 on the road. (With 2 Jansen blown saves) if I'm remembering it right

with Jansen pitching they were one strike away from winning the game, but a bloop end of the bat single, followed by the Lowe home run spelled defeat. Interesting that McClain and Lowe had NO home runs in 2026 and they both hit 2 home runs each in that game. The 3 game series with the Reds had a combination of 19 home runs. 10 for the Reds and 9 for the Tigers. That has to be some kind of record for a three game series. And yes, Flaherety is too much of a liability with his head case problems. I would give him his unconditional release and eat the contract. Looks like that may happen with Verlander, (eating the contract, if he doesn't heal up.
Lots of money wasted that could have been used to acquire a shut down bullpen.
