Through Monday, the Detroit Tigers have played 41 games. It’s now time to invoke Sparky Anderson’s legendary advice:
“You can’t tell anything about a baseball team until 40 games have been played.”
The Tigers are approximately at the quarter point of the season and according to Sparky, there is now enough data and stats for everyone to use in determining this team’s identity and potential for the rest of the season.
Right now, Detroit’s record is 19-22 and they are 2 games back in the AL Central, tied for 3rd place with the Royals. They are also just 1 game better than the last place team.
They have been unable to string more than 2 wins together so far this season. Part of that reason may be due to a rash of injuries that have put a number of their better players on the IL. The original starting rotation in particular has been decimated.
At this important 40-game benchmark, what are your thoughts about how this season will play out?
Has their performance indicated they will continue to struggle all year?
Do you think that the disappointing season is indicative of the team’s recent history of slow starts?
Or do you think that performance will get better as players come off the IL?
After 40 games, how do you think this season will play out?
1. The team will continue to struggle.
2. Not worried as this team usually has a slow start.
3. Once players return from the IL, they will play better.
VOTE
They will continue to struggle as a .500 team.
