As much as we dislike all the platooning of these players that some wouldn't be sniffing the team, I think it also puts stress on these players being forced to play out of the position they are accustomed to. Added to this theory is that it is difficult for most infielders to play on either side of the diamond, and some players just can't handle third base shortstop or second base. The positioning and foot work, with turn around second is difficult to complete a force out throw to first or complete a double play. Same with playing left or right field. The ball moves away instead of a straight line to right field Kaline used to talk about this.
Same with the pitchers. Bouncing from relieving to starting, it is possible that this is part of why so many pitchers have arm injuries.

Hinch has always been portrayed as a thoughtful, insightful manager, but this season, it simply feels like he has thrown in the towel, and manages with a preconceived formula that doesn't take in account anything in the immediate time frame.
