Days of Roar Tigers Podcast. Should Detroit Tigers let Tarik Skubal pitch deeper into games? 70 minutes.
Tarik Skubal is the ace of the Detroit Tigers — so should manager A.J. Hinch allow him to pitch deeper into games, even in late May? After throwing a complete game shutout on 94 pitches, Skubal was pulled at 90 pitches after seven scoreless innings and replaced by reliever Beau Brieske. By the eighth inning, the Tigers were trailing and ultimately lost, 1-0, to the Kansas City Royals in a key American League Central matchup. Hear from Hinch and former Tigers ace Justin Verlander about Skubal's workload, including why Hinch made the decision to pull him from the game. Also on this episode: Parker Meadows returns from the injured list to make his 2025 season debut, with Justyn-Henry Malloy optioned to Triple-A Toledo; West Michigan Whitecaps broadcaster Dan Hasty talks about top prospects Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark, Josue Briceño, plus a bounce-back season for Izaac Pacheco; injury updates on Jackson Jobe, Matt Vierling, Reese Olson and Sawyer Gipson-Long; the Spencer Torkelson-Riley Greene show continues.

Tigers have allowed 1 - 0 - 1 run the past 3 games.

Final line for Tigers starter Jack Flaherty: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. 99 pitches, 66 strikes. Flaherty owns a 2.22 ERA with six walks and 26 strikeouts across 24.1 innings in his past four starts, including one run in his last 12 innings.

Parker Meadows. Immediate impact. The ball off Andrew Benintendi's bat had a .950 expected batting average — but Meadows charged in and made a diving catch, robbing him of an RBI single and ending the first inning.

Tigers wRC+ Leaders:
Spencer Torkelson, 139
Gleyber Torres, 133
Riley Greene, 132
Kerry Carpenter, 131
Dillon Dingler, 126
Zach McKinstry, 119
Javy Baez, 109
Colt Keith, 108

Kerry Carpenter had his 2nd worst month for his career in terms of SLG% at .420 for May.

The Tigers followed up their miraculous Postseason berth in 2024 by becoming the first team to 40 wins this season.

Tigers HR leaders: Spencer Torkelson (14), Kerry Carpenter (13), and Riley Greene (13). The last time we had three players with 13+ HR at this point of a season:
Norm Cash (18), Rocky Colavito (13), and Al Kaline (13) in 1962.

Tigers prospect eager for fresh start after long road back.

Hanifee has a double play ball and has plenty of time and throws ball badly to 2nd. Just a really poor play.
Falls behind 3-1 to next batter then throws two great pitches for the
K. Walks the next batter who was a lefty. Baez loaded 2 outs.
Throws three bad pitches in a row 3-0, now 3-1.
Walks in a run. Just embarrassing to this club.
Error cost 1 run. K’s the next batter, after the Fetters mound visit.

Tigers trail 1-0

Tiger hitters taking night off so far.
Sweeney is way back down to .227

Another Embarrassing half inning for the tigers.

Hanifee is all over the place with is pitches , and yet he gets them 123.
Last three pitches were them best of the half inning ring. k.
I keep forgetting the wind is effecting our pitchers more than The Chicago pitcher so far.

Ibanez still cant get a hit off a lefty this year lately. K’s badly trying to to pull a elevated fastball instead of punching it into to right field.

Greene BB
Tork k’s on a pitch inside and off the plate.

Tigers Trail 1-0.

That’s is great pick by Baez at 3rd. Infield single.

Holton just cant get out of his own way.
Deflects an out into a single.
That may be the damn the ball game .
Holton allows another homer. 3 run shot.
Such a terrible pitch. Total lack of concentration. After the mistake.
Trail 4-0 . Just ridiculous against this team.,

Perez. singles off pitcher infield.
Dingler doubles rbi (4-1)
Sweeney F-8 (yet another poor at bat by him)
Baez pops out on first pitch. (2 poor AB’s in a row)
Meadows F-8.

That Fizzled fast. Trail 4-1.

Yankees beat Cleveland 3-2.
St. Louis had a 7-2 lead on KC. Now trail 10-7.
Minnesota will probably beat the A’s later.

Smith has had last two batters 1-2.
He gave up a 1-2 single .
Then. 2-2 single.
Both off fastballs.
1-2. Count again. Double (yet another stupid pitch)
Looked at it again. Just a Awful pitch.
Trail 6-1

Both Peña and Benntti jacking off over Smth’s fast ball.
He has gaving up 3 hits in a damn row off the fastball.
Really poor pitches in terrible locations.

He was ahead in on all three batters and couldn’t get them
Out.
Holton is two steps forward two steps back. His 5th homer given up
This year. He only had 7 all of last year.
