They have flipped a switch these last two games. Flaherty didn’t implode and this dejesus went 4 innings of shutout pitching. The team with the best record losing 2 games at home to the team with the worst record.
Baseball can be strange.

Tigers blank Rays for 2-0 start in June: 'The past is the past'.
There was a somewhat cheeky item in the game notes Tuesday. Under the tag line, “June Slug,” it was noted the Tigers’ .821 slugging percentage led all of baseball and their 1.239 OPS led the American League – for the month of June.
Was it cheeky or portentous?
The sample size doubled Tuesday, the second day of June, but so did the production.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers switched to a platoon system several years ago that utilized players capable of playing several positions, facilitating a flexible mix and match strategy. It was a way to maximize talent that didn’t have a lot of high-end players.
But now the Tigers are struggling with this strategy. Arguments can be made that some bench players are playing too much while others like Colt Keith should be playing more.
It is unclear if it’s the strategy at fault or the lower level of player talent.
And then there is Matt Vierling who played horribly last week in the outfield and confessed that his bad play was due to erroneously allowing his infield, not outfield, habits to kick in.
However, if the Tigers dropped this strategy, it would also put them at a disadvantage. A regular lineup where players are limited in the positions they play usually requires a higher level of talent which the Tigers don’t currently have. There would be concerns over who would man 3B, CF and RF.
And should Javy Baez return, would the Tigers hand SS back to him, moving Kevin McGonigle to 3B?
And where would Colt Keith play?
And what about 1B? With a set lineup, Spencer Torkelson, horrible defensively, would be playing there every day.
Currently, only Dillon Dingler, Kevin McGonigle and Riley Greene are solid choices to be playing 1 position every day.
What strategy should the Tigers use for the rest of this season?

Which roster strategy should the Tigers use for the rest of the year?

1. A more traditional set roster.

2. A platooning one in which players have more than 1 position.

I think it hurts the defense more than anything. If Javey gets back, the answer seems pretty easy.

1b Tork
2b Torres
ss McGongile
3b Keith
RF platoon
Cf Javey
LF Greene
C Dingler

DFA Short, Jones, Perez
Call up Julks, Malgeri, Max Anderson
