'Aggressive' Tigers sweep Rays to put miserable May in rearview.
Don’t let the Tigers get hot.
Jake Rogers famously said that in August of 2024 and the Tigers got scorching hot. This isn't that, but after grinding through a miserable 6-22 month of May that cratered with three straight losses to the White Sox in Chicago, they came into Tropicana Field and swept a three-game series from the American League East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.

Detroit Tigers sweep Tampa Bay Rays in win as Dillon Dingler stays hot.
Almost every Detroit Tigers hitter looks improved through three games in June, but Dillon Dinger continues to go above and beyond. He put the Tigers on his back for a sweep of one of MLB's best teams.
The Tigers scored in each of the first four innings en route to a 7-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, June 3, in the finale of the three-game series at Tropicana Field, sweeping the series for a three-game winning streak.

Max Anderson went O-4 today.
He was 28 for 90 which is .311 starting the day.
After today he is now
28 for 94 which is .298
What’s crazy is if he just went 1-4
(29 for 94) his average would only drop to .309.

29-41 BAD 2025, 58-34 -1ST HALF 2025, 25-38 REMAINING GAMES 99 SO ADD THEIR 1ST HALF 58+25 =83, 34+38=72, THATS 155 WOULD GIVE 7 GAMES GO 4-3 AND END UP 87-75. THE MATH CAN GET THEM THERE. WILL 87 WINS BE ENOUGHT TO MAKE PLAYOFFS?

Some trade stuff:
1. Tigers are telling other teams: As of now, they're not selling. The sweep of the Rays will fuel their hope of climbing back into the AL race.
2. The Red Sox are signaling to other teams that not only are they looking to add a right-handed bat, but they're also willing to spend $ to do it.
3. Right now, there is very little relief help available. Clubs looking for bullpen additions say even the worst teams won't talk about bullpen swaps... yet.

Dillon Dingler leads all Major League catchers with 2.5 fWAR.He posted 9 RBI in our sweep of Tampa Bay earlier this week, becoming the first Tigers player with 9+ RBI in a three-game series since Miguel Cabrera in September, 2016.

Dillon Dingler is arguably the best all-around catcher in the MLB.

The formula is simple when healthy: Gleyber Torres (.396 OBP) and Kevin McGonigle (.390 OBP) at the top of the order gives the Tigers opportunities to drive runners in. While Torres was out, the players filling those top-of-order spots managed just a .268 OBP.
The difference is everything.

The Tigers over 28 games in May won just 6 games, hit 18 home runs, and scored 81 runs.
In 3 days in June they’ve won 3 games, hit 10 home runs, and scored 25 runs.

If you don’t realize how important Montero has been for this team since 2024. He was great last postseason and pitching chaos doesn’t work on 2024 without him. The best ability is availability and he’s more available than Mize, Jobe, and Olsen with better numbers than Jobe.

Melton's second half of his IP 5th: 8 pitche, 6th: 6 pitches, 7th: 8 pitches, 8th: 11 pitches.
He threw more than 4 pitches in a PA just 2 of the 12 batters he faced.

In the Live Ball Era (1920-now), eight players have had 65+ hits and 36+ walks in their first 60 career games.
Kevin McGonigle ('26)
Juan Soto ('18
)Logan Morrison ('10)
Kevin Seitzer ('86-87)
Alvin Davis ('84)
Larry Rosenthal ('36)
Zeke Bonura ('34)
Ray Grimes ('20-21)

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

We are learning this year that the Detroit Tigers are a mystery. Are they a team that advanced too quickly in their rebuild? Is the current system in place to turn this roster into a highly-competitive one not working? Or is this team about to start re-tooling?
We won’t know for some time. It could even be a year or more.
But as we wait for the answer, there are other mysteries going on with this roster. Today, I’ve got 5 of them that need answers sooner rather than later.
