Game #85: Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers, Sunday June 29th, 2025, 7:10 Pm

Carpenter's hamstring issues are an ongoing problem. With all the stretching and exercises the players do, I wonder if Carpenter, or any of the Tiger's players do Yoga stretching poses?
I think I read that they all do the downward dog. It’s highly recommended by the MLBPA.

Sunday Night Showcase: Tarik Skubal Deals the Heat.
TMLR

Tarik Skubal is the first Tigers pitcher in history to strike out 11 or more at home five times in one season.
Tarik Skubal broke the record of Mickey Lolich of striking out 11 or more at home. Lolich did it in 1971, four times.

MLB fWAR leaders as of 6/30
1. Aaron Judge - 6.3
2. Cal Raleigh - 5.6
3. Tarik Skubal - 4.3
4. Shohei Ohtani - 4.3 (4.1 + 0.2)
Crochet, Skenes, and Webb are the next closest pitchers all with 3.4 fWAR, which puts them just outside the top 10 in MLB.

Tarik Skubal by the way, finished the month of June; 5-0 33.1 IP 7 ER 39K 7BB 24H.

Congratulations to John Peck on winning Midwest League Player of the Week.Peck went 14-for-29 over 6 games, with a home run, two doubles, two steals, 11 runs scored, and 7 RBIs.

Congrats to Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle and Josue Briceño on being selected for the 2025 Futures Game.
Here is every Detroit Tigers prospect invited to the Futures Game since it began in 1999.

It will be surprising if Kerry Carpenter does not hit the 15 day IL, comes back on the first game post ASB in Texas Friday July 18, gives him 18+ days of healing time for the second half.

Reminder that phase two of All-Star voting runs from noon today through noon on Wednesday. Javier Baez (OF), Riley Greene (OF), and Gleyber Torres (2B) represent the Tigers in this round. Fans can only vote once per day, making your support vital!

AN APPEALING GAME.
Totally Tigers

This team is supposed to be more athletic. The players on the active roster have a total of 23 stolen bases. There are 3 players in MLB that have more than the entire Tigers roster.

That might be the case, but the lack of stolen bases is made up by the Tigers as a collective team leading the league or both AL and NL in taking the extra base; first to third, and second to home. At least they were the last time it was read and posted.

I do remember reading about that, but I think those stats are somewhat subjective. It still doesn't explain the lack of SB

Must be a philosophy of AJ. Because they really don’t steal much.
Idk. They do go 1st to 3rd very well.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

The Detroit Tigers returned to Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN for the time since 2017. Eight years.
It was because Tarik Skubal was pitching.
Before Skubal came up to Detroit, there was another Tiger pitcher who reaped so many of the headlines.
Justin Verlander. He became known as “must see tv” whenever he pitched.
Has Skubal now reached that level? Is he “must see tv”?
When he’s pitching, do you make sure to watch those games?

Is Tarik Skubal "must see tv"?

1. Absolutely! Wouldn't miss him.

2. If the schedule permits, I'll try to watch.

3. Watching him is not a priority for me.

I voted #3. I have no priority for a single player. If I have time to watch the Tigers, I'll watch, regardless who is pitching.

I just saw that Carpenter is going on the 10 day IL. My guess is he is off until after the AS break?

That’s the plan I heard about and posted. The days off before and after the All-Star break will give him 18 days.
