First off, I want someone who stresses defense. Dan Lanning is my first to kick the tires on. I know it could be a long shot, but you have to ask. The guy has been very successful, but Phil Knight will not be around forever. Dude is young and will have more resources at his disposal and more national attention at his disposal. It would have to cross his mind at what it would be like to coach in The Game. His offenses are good and opportunistic and his defenses are getting better every year.

So, this is my first pick. Who do you all have?

I like Kalen Deboer, also. He has a great offensive mind, but his defenses scare me. Although, his Alabama defenses have been far better than the one at Washington. You combine the Washington offense with the Bama defense and he has a NC at Bama. Guy can definitely run a program.

I'm surprised people believe DeBoer would be a possibility, but I'm not sure I want that guy. They've dropped games they shouldn't have, and UGA blew them out last week.

At UW, his offense was really just Michael Penix chucking the ball all over. They weren't very disciplined, especially on defense.

I don't know about Dan Lanning either. He looked like he was coked out of his mind after the Penn State game:

Maybe not, but why risk it? his teams haven't been that great there either. Good, not great, with media hype and Nike money on their side.

I don't know who we should hire, but I don't care if he's a big name, as long as he's methodical, makes sure his teams are well drilled and players know their assignments, and doesn't have any baggage or ethical issues.

"Doesn't have any baggage or ethical issues"

So basically nobody thats been on staff at um in the Harbaugh era

Looks like Kenny Dillingham's agent is doing his job, cuz Dillingham hasn't signed his extension yet. Would be dumb not to take advantage of the Michigan situation.

Tony Annese would win national championship at Michigan. It’s a shame Michigan won’t even look at him.

My friend said Dillingham would be a great hire, but when I searched him, the first link that came up was something like "Dillingham fights back tears when talking about ASU's season."

NOPE. Disqualified. No more coaches who cry.

Lol, no cryers allowed. Too soft

I should say, no cryers allowed, unless you just won a National Championship.

LOL. Dillingham all the way.
Hell, I get emotional sometimes when my alma mater wins a big game. 😂
He's young, is a great offensive mind, and the players love him.
Lots of OC experience, top 5 Offenses in his last 2 years at Memphis, Florida State, Auburn, Oregon, now ASU... He developed Bo Nix @ Auburn... You don't get those jobs at such a young age without talent. He's also a great recruiter which is important for us to hold this recruiting class (and team) together.

I have a buddy in AZ that golfs with Dillingham's neighbor. Their kids are besties.
So via hearsay from my friends' neighbor ... Dillingham hasn't signed the ASU extension yet because he wants stability for his staff and a guarantee that he will be able to recruit competitive teams at the highest level. He doesn't want more money for himself, he wants more pay for his staff so they don't jump ship at the first offer, and enough NIL money to recruit the top talent in the country. Something he can get at Michigan. He loves coaching for his Alma Mater and living near family but @ UM he could afford to fly home anytime he wanted to, and would be able to build a solid foundation of assistants and players. He is not out of the picture yet. ASU isn't likely to be able to meet those desires.

I know people scoff at Kyle Whittingham's age(66), but the guy would instantly put Michigan on a path to the playoffs. He looks nowhere near 66, because he's obviously in very good shape. If Michigan did come around to landing Whittingham, I would have no problem with it. We would get a good 5-7 years and be in contention every year. And quite frankly, that is the goal. It would also give the university plenty of time to plan ahead for the next coach. The guy stresses defense and is very creative when it comes to offense, especially with a mobile quarterback. Id def put him in my top 3, along with Deboer and Dillingham.

First of all, I want someone who stresses not banging his assistant.

Doing that is a non-starter for me.

What if he porks his assistant in his first or second year?

That 5-7 year window goes right out the window.

At the risk of repeating myself: what coach worth his salt would want to be the next coach at ANY program with a temporary president, an AD on thin ice, that is being "investigated" for additional "irregularities" at an "ethical" and "cultural" level, and that features selected Regents who allegedly get things done to their satisfaction via DMs, subterfuge, and double-handedness? And, with recruits recanting their commitments?

you're right. I don't know what's going on, and I've given up trying to figure it out.

the timeline for hiring a new coach is almost certainly not going to fit what the "24/7 media cycle" wants and what Fans Online want. But that's maybe a good thing in my opinion. Let things settle down so there's more stability - at least that - before we hire someone.

I'm concerned that Warde is still around and has possibly survived. I don't want him to make this next hire, unless smarter people than him are consulted.

But an investigation has started and that's going to take time, and that will likely dictate the timing of everything else.

I don't like the "Whoever we hire can't possibly be a worse coach than Sherrone" rhetoric I'm seeing.

Oh yes. Yes, they can...

If Im doing my job and winning, I dont have to worry about any of that noise. And what coach wouldnt take their opportunity to coach Michigan? This isnt Purdue. If what was happening at Michigan were happening at a place like that? Much different. If Im a coach worth my salt, I see a big contract and endless resources to get the job done. Yes, Michigan is a different animal, even with all the BS going on.

I always, naively apparently, believed that The University of Michigan, "The Leaders and Best," and with the motto "Artes, Scientia, Veritas" actually lived up to those ideals.

Now, after the "bottom has fallen out of the tub" the temporary president says this:

"As we conduct our search for our next head football coach, we intend to hire an individual who can and will instill that spirit, and who will represent the highest values that our  University holds dear. We will hire an individual who is of the highest moral character, and who will serve as a role model and respected leader for the entire football program — and who will, with dignity and integrity, be a fierce competitor."

Noble words, but, in this day and age, to compete for the national championship in its present format, few if any of these qualities are relevant. So, if Michigan lands such a coach, don't expect to be celebrating national titles any time soon, because such a coach should never support an 18-year-old kid getting $10,000,000 to run his offense.

And which of the coaches under consideration fit all these stated requirements?

It’s become an ever moving goal post where rules are made up by the corrupt NCAA as the game is being played.

Except Moore violated rules that that are pretty longstanding since Marilyn Monroe had to “commit suicide.”

Those have been pretty much etched in stone for a while.

Now, Harbaugh and the video - what game film are you allowed to look at again, and when?

I know most here have read the MgoBlow comments and It appears Whiitingham is finalizing the contract. I am a happy man if this is true. Now the next important things are the assistants. Apparently, Tony Alford will be retained, which would be a first huge win. The players on offense should be delighted in knowing that we will run the ball, but also have creativity on that side of the ball. Hopefully, the DC will be a person set on having the best Dline in all of college football, again. Although Utah was talent strapped on the defensive side, they were sound tacklers in Whittingham's tenure and didn't make many mistakes. What they lacked was elite talent. I think The University of Michigan can give Kyle that extra edge. Here's to hoping gents!! I hope I'm singing the praises come this time next year and we are getting ready for the Quarterfinals.
